My name is Hagar Diab and I’m a 20-something Youth Coordinator at MY Project USA. I’m the person who enjoys to be in the background. Quietly enjoying the scenes as they unfold before me, and later reflecting on the day’s happenings. This changed after joining MY Project USA and working with Sister Zerqa. Now I HAVE to be in the forefront, I have to organize, I have to make quick decisions, I have to lead, and I HAVE to be heard. Another side of me that was hidden has finally bloomed (well it’s still blooming in some sense). Being a part of MY Project USA has opened my eyes to a whole different part of our Muslim community that I didn’t know existed. Especially after we opened MY Deah's on the West Side of Columbus. It has made me realize how much hidden potential the Muslim Youth actually has. If we really take the time to water these talents, the future of the Muslim community will, in no doubt, bloom and thrive in shaa Allah.
We are located on the West Side of Columbus, an area that is known for it’s drug and gang problems, as well as its large Muslim immigrant and refugee population. Being a youth myself and working with youth has its own challenges especially with some of the complex issues like Islamophobia, drugs, adapting to the culture in US, and much more. I can’t even fathom the hardships that some of the youth deal with who live under these conditions. It just makes me wonder, how come we are completely neglecting our very own neighbors right here in Columbus? We need to start reaching out now.
Your help is needed to sustain MY Project USA to keep it going. Just $25/month can take us where we are supposed to be. This is why I encourage you to be a part of this movement, we are the future and if you don’t invest today we will have a tougher tomorrow.
Last but not least, I want you to take a moment to watch this video below about MY Deah's that was compiled by Omar, Abdikadir, and Abdullahi who are some of our awesome youth at MY Project USA.

Earth Action Day Five to Plant Trees in Columbus
In Islam, planting trees is a renewable source of reward, "If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (sadaqah) for him." - Imam Bukhari. Even if it is your last deed, “If the Hour (the day of Resurrection) is about to be established and one of you was holding a palm shoot, let him take advantage of even one second before the Hour is established to plant it." - Al-Albani
If you plan to attend, please take a moment to register for MY Earth Action Day 5!
We are excited to inform you that we have now become an active member of Islamic Council of Ohio (ICO). Under the umbrella of ICO, we will be helping all members organization to launch similar programs in their communities, inshaAllah. We are now reaching out to all Islamic organizations in Ohio to present about our program and initiatives. If you. would like us to bring our program to your city, you can send us a request too.
It's amazing how far along we came in just four and a half months! This location used to be a wedding hall, so we've had a couple of community members who had their weddings or quinceañeras here walk in with a big smile and say, "wow! this place looks so different now, I like it!" It's definitely been a rewarding journey for all of us at MY Deah's. We had our ups and downs, but alhamdulilah with Allah's help and the community's support we've managed to come this far, and we hope we can go even further with your help in shaa Allah.
But how do we go further? If 15 people pay $100/month, that will take care of our store rent. This is one of the biggest struggles we are dealing with right now. We have to sell our clothes and other items at low prices so they can be affordable to community members of low income backgrounds. Therefore, we do not receive enough income from our sales each month to pay the youth their salaries, bills, and rent. As a result of this, we are set back completely. But this is a problem that can be solved with your help. We all must remember that MY Deah’s is not a typical thrift store. It is a place that provides employment/volunteer opportunities for our youth, it is a place where we can serve our very own community, it is a place where so many seeds can grow and thrive, there is so much potential here and with your help and donations we can unlock it!
For those who have been showing their support, may Allah reward every community members who contributed their time, their donations, and all their efforts into this store, and may Allah reward all the youth who helped bring this store to where it is today. Ameen. Please do take the time to share our sales page on Facebook with your friends and family. All of your contributions will account as a sadiqa jariyah (continuous charity) in shaa Allah.
