A Purposeful Evening With Rep. Kristin Boggs, City Attorney Zach Klein, County Auditor Michael Stinziano & More
Thanks To A Generous Donor, You Can Now Book A Seat For Just $10
At this iftar, we will be honoring the families of Amber Evans and Rubén Castilla Hererra, longtime friends and supporters of Islam and Muslim Community in Columbus.
We will also be raising money to uplift Hilltop youth and families and addressing human trafficking in Hilltop area. City Attorney, Zach Klein will be shedding light on the situation at the Sullivant Ave. This will be a kick off event in Columbus for our nationwide Ramadan fundraising campaign under our initiative "Muslims Against Human Trafficking" to address sex trafficking in Hilltop area and beyond. Ohio ranks fourth in human trafficking. This neighborhoods gets the 40% of sex trafficking in Columbus. This puts thousands of our children at a very high risk of drugs, gangs and sex trafficking on the west side of Columbus. Although we have been working on the prevention side for four years, this would be our first step toward intervention. We are working with Klein's office to identify and partner with other organizations who could help support our vision to help rescue and restore the victims of trafficking and addicts on Sullivant Ave. and around.
Make It A Happy & Safe Eid For Every Kid! Partner With Us In Protecting & Empowering Our Youth
This is the time again, when you can help us bring a smile on children's faces. We have thousands of children within our refugee community on the west side. This Muslim refugee community is trapped in a neighborhood filled with drug dealers, pimps and other criminals. Most of these parents can't afford to get any toy for their children. Whereas criminals in the neighborhood are always ready to prey upon this kids when they are most vulnerable. A hot meal, a new toy or even a drink from these criminals could put them in risk being hooked drugs and falling into slavery for a very long time.
My Project USA launched the Balls Not Drugs initiative last year and it has been very successful. More kids are away from drugs then ever before in Wedgewood. We would like to continue this momentum and would like to donate more toys, especially balls this year.
Use your zakat to save hundreds of children from falling into the ditches of drugs, gangs, slavery (human trafficking), prostitution and more.
We Fit Six Out of Eight Criteria.
MY Project USA is a nonprofit, 501 (C) 3 organization. We serve local refugees, orphans, slaves, victims of abuse, and other needy and poor neighbors in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio area. We are Zakat eligible since it falls into six of the eight categories of Zakat as commanded by Allah SWT in the following verse of Quran:
"Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah . And Allah is Knowing and Wise. (Quran 9:60)"
The first and second category of “for poor and for the needy” applies since we are helping poor local and refugee Muslim families.
The fourth category of "bringing hearts together" applies since we serve all needy people regardless of their faith, ethnicity or race. We also work with individuals that are attracted to Islam and Muslims and prefer working with us to learn more.
The fifth category “freeing captives” applies since we are addressing human trafficking, the modern day slavery, prevention and intervention. We are specially focusing on freeing sex-slaves from their masters and then helping them in reestablishing their lives.
The sixth category of "paying the debt" applies since we take care of families, single moms and family violence victims dealing with debts and financial instability.
The seventh category “the cause of Allah” applies because we are protecting and empowering Muslim youth and families in America. Through our work we are addressing drugs, gangs, violence, suicides, radicalization, homelessness, and hunger through capacity building of the individuals and the community. Through the documentation and publicity of our work we seek to address Islamophobia as well. Our goal is to preserve Islam and Muslim community in America at its best.
According to the majority scholars, Zakat can be given to those who volunteer to fight in the cause of Allah (SWT) and do not receive a fixed salary from the government. This also applies to the operational cost/salaries of a non-profit organization like ours that fits the other categories of zakat eligibility.
Of course people can also donate their sadaqa or general donations for this cause as well. Please check out our website: MYProjectUSA.org or Facebook Page MY Project USAf or more info.
Credit card donations on Facebook are free of charge, therefore we would love you to donate here if you won't mind.
You can also choose any of the following method to send your zakat or other donations to our way.
Last Saturday, a man approached several pantry volunteers at MY Deah's store and behaved in a way that raised safety concerns. Volunteers immediately shared it with our Pantry Director, Omar Dahshi. Omar handled the situation very professionally and called police immediately. Although the man left before the police came, his information was provided to the police.
Although we are thankful that no harm came to anyone present, we realize that as our pantry and store employs and serves a diverse community, we could potentially be targeted because of the important work that we do. We have reviewed our security measures at the store, and want to make sure that all our clients, volunteers, and staff are safe at all times. To that end, we are upgrading our security cameras and are hiring a security company to provided protection to MY Deah's store going forward.
These measure are beyond our budget, but we are confident that our community will help us bear this extra load through their generous donations. We are working to obtain estimates and will finalize our plan in the coming days. We will keep you posted about the cost of it once we know.
Please be vigilant of your surroundings. When you see something. say Something. Thank you.
MY Family Pantry, an initiative of MY Project USA, can help you distribute food to a family in need this Ramadan.
Zakat-Al-Fitr in the US is estimated to be $10/person per household this year. All Zakat Al-Fitr donations to this fundraiser will go towards buying essential food for our Eid pantry. Alhamdulillah, last year we were able to provide oil, rice, flour, sugar and more to 252 Families (1348 individuals) right before Eid thanks to the donations we received. This year, we would like to do the same and ensure that our local families are guaranteed enough food throughout Ramadan and Eid.
MY Family Pantry at MY Project USA is committed to serving our local community during Ramadan and plan on holding a special pantry on Saturday, June 1st, a few days before Eid.
