Columbus Interfaith Iftar 2019
Uplifting Local Refugees, Orphans, Needy & Victims of Violence Through Food, Housing, Education, Employment & More.

Celebrating Social Justice Champions Amber Evans & Rubén Castella Herrera

At this iftar, we will be honoring the families of Amber Evans and Rubén Castilla Hererra, longtime friends and supporters of Islam and Muslim Community in Columbus.

We will also be raising money to uplift Hilltop youth and families and addressing human trafficking in Hilltop area. City Attorney, Zach Klein will be shedding light on the situation at the Sullivant Ave. This will be a kick off event in Columbus for our nationwide Ramadan fundraising campaign under our initiative "Muslims Against Human Trafficking" to address sex trafficking in Hilltop area and beyond. Ohio ranks fourth in human trafficking. This neighborhoods gets the 40% of sex trafficking in Columbus. This puts thousands of our children at a very high risk of drugs, gangs and sex trafficking on the west side of Columbus. Although we have been working on the prevention side for four years, this would be our first step toward intervention. We are  working with Klein's office to identify and partner with other organizations who could help support our vision to help rescue and restore the victims of trafficking and addicts on Sullivant Ave. and around.

Wedgewood Youth Inspire More Youth

At Spring Youth Retreat, New Bunch of Youth Leaders Trained To Uplift Their Community

This is how we Protect & Empower Our Youth!

On Wednesday, April 24, our Wedgewood youth had the opportunity to participate in another retreat at Bridge Gate Community School. This was a joint venture of MY Project USA, Impact Community Action Services and Ohio Youth Development Services. Bridge Gate Community School collaborated by providing space.

A total of 20 youth participated. Among them three of them were our senior leaders including Asha Bakari, Isha Hussein and Fadumo Mohamed. They have attended previous retreats and meetings meetings former Columbus City Council Member and current Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano, Bill Huffman, Commander Scott Hyland and many others. It was refreshing to see 17 new youth joining them this time.

Youth attended a series of workshops that helped them explore their leadership styles and how to build, strengthen, and apply their skills to their best ability.  Many of the older youth like Abukar Mohamed and Adam Mohamed, felt like they finally had a space to talk about what they wanted to and for the first time for many, they were gathered together talking about things that matter and impact them directly.

In Asha’s words, My Project USA gave such an opportunity to many who thought they were nothing but a number in the community. Through this many of the community youth felt empowered to continue their work for themselves. They want to bring various community members together and meet with city council to show that there is power and numbers and they want to talk back their community. We have a lot in pipeline for these youth. We can’t wait to see what they would do in coming years and decades.
