Alternative land access via the DBCYA boat ramp is possible. It is acknowledged that access will be restricted thus parties are working to minimise downtime.

WELCOME NEW DINAH MEMBERS
Lots of new members have signed up to enjoy the club's social and yachting facilities over the past few months.  Welcome to all and please visit our website or call 8981 7816 if you have any queries about upcoming events or facilities.  The club currently has a healthy membership base of 1200, with all memberships expiring on 30 June.
ON-SITE STORAGE FACILITIES FOR SENIOR MEMBERS
Management is wishing to utilise spare hard stand space to provide storage facilities, in the shape of one or two converted 40ft shipping containers, providing 6-8 storage bays per container on a user pays basis.  Interested senior members please contact Wendy the GM and come along to the SGM on Sun 04 March where there will be further discussion and gauging of member interest.
TEMPORARY SOFTENING OF ELIGIBILITY TO USE THE HARD STAND
Whilst a depressed economy is affecting the NT and we have spare hard stand sites not generating income for the Club, the Management Committee has determined to soften the stance on eligibility to allow non-commercial powered cruising vessels up onto the hard stand also.  The same fees and regulations will apply. Sites will be kept spare for yachts as a priority.  Upon an increase in demand for the facility again, this eligibility can be reviewed.
Financial senior members with powered cruisers interested in utilising this facility are invited to have an initial discussion with Wendy the GM on 0499 346 242.
WORKING BEE - 8am SAT 10 MARCH
HARD STAND CLEAN UP

A fair bit of rubbish and other random items has accumulated over time in various spare sites in the Boat Park and Wharf and we need a team of usefuls to help sort through and dispose.

We will also work with the current hard stand occupants to determine if there is any historical rubbish on their site not theirs that we can remove.

Any members who are storing items in the boat park or on the wharf who are not current hard stand occupants are advised they need to remove their item/s before the above date as all unclaimed items will be considered abandoned cyclone risks.

A couple of hours of your help will go a really long way thanks.
Good Sort Bonus - all who pitch in will go in a lucky draw to win a carton of Great Northern.
ANNUAL $50 'DINGHY @ DINAH' FEE COMING IN
Any senior members who store/park a dinghy at DBCYA, be it on the pontoon, hard stand or careening poles beach, will incur a $50 annual fee (per financial year, starting 01 July 2018), payable at the time of membership renewal or upon joining (a 50% pro-rata rate applies after 01 January in line with membership pro-rata rates).  This will replace the dinghy rack site rental system and payments already made here for 2018 will be taken into account.
A 2018-19 sticker will be provided once paid for display on your dinghy. Please note there is no pensioner concession on this facility charge.
This fee has been introduced to make it a fairer system rather than one group paying a fee and others not.
IMPENDING ANNUAL DRINKS PRICE RISE
As of next month  drinks prices at the bar will rise slightly to reflect the year's operational cost increases.  Members will of course continue to get a $1 discount per standard drink.
DINGHY TRAILERS PARKED PAST THE NEW CARPARK
There are currently seven dinghy trailers that have been parked by members on the unused Lot 7303.  Although this may seem like a harmless place to store them, it is against club policy, it contravenes the stipulations of our Occupation License, is making vegetation maintenance difficult and is causing complaints from the Body Corp next door. Can those members please remove their dinghy trailers as a matter of urgency.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Why are boats most commonly named after women?

Dear Anonymous,

This question really got me thinking.  After consultation with a few of our more traditional skippers, I have the following conclusion:  because she has lots of people who admire her; a great waist and stay; it takes a lot of paint to keep her looking good and if the initial expense doesn't break you, the upkeep probably will; when she is all decked out, you are proud to show her off but when the 'red flag' goes up it will probably mean a protest.  A 'broach' could indicate a potentially dire situation and may have you looking for a life ring.  Yachts can be 'dressed all over' and when you compliment the Captain on his 'bright work' its is advisable to remember that most owners today prefer a more durable, less demanding synthetic - to the scorn of old salt.

Got a question you'd like answered?  A perplexing personal issue? A curiosity about your club?  A nagging nautical knowledge query?  Send in your questions to cruising@dbcya.com.au attn Dear Liza and you shall have your answer next month!
