Are you living in freedom?

Without going into the nitty gritty details yet (check the blog next Friday), I realized the other day that I don't feel like I'm living in freedom. Mostly, financial freedom. Thankyouprivatecollegestudentloans.

It was one of those odd revelations that just so happened to pop into my head. The past 2 months or so have been...long. Lots of things to think about, life and business changes. All kinds of things that have had my Introverted self thinking like crazy.

I was walking out of my parents new house when I realized this. Then I took it a step further and discovered I've been shoulding all over the place: I should workout today, even though I want to rest. I should be posting these things to social media to drive traffic and make money. I should take this path to get to this destination because it's what other people have done to be successful. I should spend this time doing work and hustle because the business needs to grow....

It was one of those 'ahhhhhh' moments when the lightbulb went off and the smoke cleared. On my way home, I started making a list in my head of all the things I wanted to do, just because I wanted to do them. A list of things that make me happy. A list of things I want to do without a time attached to it.

- spend a day creating new recipes
- stroll and not worry about being back at a certain time
- workout when I want, on the days I want, doing a workout I want to do
- color
- eat pancakes every day of the week
- wake up and drink lemon water, bone broth and do yoga
- drive with the windows down and blast country music
- wear real clothes and make-up, even if I don't have to go out anywhere (and even if I do have to go somewhere)

Some of these things might sound silly. But, if I'm being honest, with running my own business, often times it can feel like the things above need to be added into my schedule. Like, eat pancakes on Sunday afternoons because I have more time to cook a meal than during the week. Or, color in my coloring book after I do all my work for the day as a way to wind down. Go on a 30 - 40 minute walk and listen to a podcast while my laptop is charging because I've been working all morning....

As I'm typing, I remember Gretchen Rubin talking about this - how Obligers will work long and hard to meet the external expectations, while putting internal expectations on hold until one day, they just want to quit...or something along those lines. Likely not so dramatic. I need to remember what podcast episode that was!

All this to ask, are you living in freedom? Do you feel bound to a schedule and expectations? Do you want that time for yourself to color or do yoga or try new recipes all day, but you feel like you can't take a break or make time for yourself?

It really all goes back to self-care.

How does this apply to living a healthy life?

If we aren't living in freedom, are we truly living? Life is mean to be enjoyed to the fullest. Ask yourself the question - are you living in freedom? Explore the question, what does living in freedom look like to you?

Your challenge: make a list of things that make you happy, feel your best, feel most free and things you would do if time wasn't an issue. Then do one thing from that list every day. Do one thing each day that makes you happy. Seriously.
