"Why I Give" – Allie Newman, Board Member
Hear why one of our incredible Board members gives to BTC!

This past Saturday, three remarkable young women, all 9th graders from our St. Paul Central site attended the PowHERful Summit led and founded by Soledad O'Brien, critically acclaimed journalist.

The full-day summit consisted of exclusively female-led workshops, panels and networking opportunities ranging in topics from how to overcome failure and finding your path to success, to budgeting for college.

These three young women also had an opportunity to participate in a networking lunch where they spoke with Dr. Sylvia Bartley, a neuroscientist and Medtronic's Global Director of Philanthropy. Her story left the three young women chanting their new mantra: "We are queens!"

Pachia Thao is currently a sophomore majoring in Communication Studies with double minors in Sociology and Leadership at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.  This is her first year serving as a member of BTC's Board of Directors and we are fortunate to benefit from her perspective as a former BTC student! She is also an student alumna of BTC, and has experienced firsthand the wonderful and impactful things Breakthrough has to offer.

Our students are go-getters and Xia, a senior at St. Paul Central High School, is no exception!

This summer, Xia was an intern with the Bush Foundation, working primarily with the Community Network Team. She had many opportunities to work outside the office, learning about the different ways in which philanthropy helps people.
