Summer programming was a total BLAST!

UPDATES AND HIGHLIGHTS
Summer programming went fantastically, and we wish we could do it for five more weeks! Students at both our Saint Paul Central and Mounds Park Academy sites enjoyed core classes, electives, YO (your own) time, ASM (all school meeting), college-themed activities, field trips, and more! Predator/Prey was a highlight for many: students assumed the identities of either hawks, raccoons, or rabbits, and played a giant game of tag to simulate the food chain.
BTC welcomed 65 visitors over the course of the four days, all of whom had the chance to see the magic of summer programming. Our last group of visitors at our MPA site had the opportunity to attend ASM and enjoyed a Breakthrough-inspired musical, with original songs to the tune of the Moana soundtrack! We are so grateful to the Teaching Fellows, Instructional Coaches, and Deans for bringing this summer to life. Major kudos! We hope to see you all next summer!

STUDENT STORY FEATURE

Meet La'Mya, a BTC student at our SPC site who just finished her second summer of BTC programming. According to her Teaching Fellows, she loves to contribute ideas to class discussions, but also makes sure to listen to other students' thoughts.

La'Mya (pictured far left in science class) made an extra effort during her first summer to make friends from multiple grades, and her efforts paid off! She also struggled with being shy in math, but the openness of BTC helped her Teaching Fellows to be creative and meet her math needs. Through working with classmates and asking questions without interruptions, La'Mya has achieved success in her math courses and made close friends at BTC. As she now puts it, "I'm definitely not shy anymore. In any of my classes. You can't be shy at Breakthrough. They enjoy us too much." Kudos, La'Mya! We can't wait for BLP with you next summer!

PROGRAM PARTNER FEATURE
This month we honor our stellar summer volunteer drivers who made it possible for 12 students to continue programming at their original program sites despite relocating, saving BTC over $7,000. Many thanks to Jacky Brooks, Gayle Cole, Adriana Cortes Mendosa, Luke & Mona Hamel, Erin Hustad, Jane Keyes, Kara McGuire, Kaia Preus, Lori Raduenz, Nina & Jock Tuttle, and Daniela Vasan, and a special thanks to volunteer coordinator Michael Langseth!
Thanks to everyone who attended Visitor Days!
Kudos to our program partners, all volunteer student drivers!
