Bonn Aanii (Happy New Year – Michif)!
As 2022 came to an end, it was humbling and heartwarming to reflect on the incredible work that my team, Aboriginal Health & Wellness, and the entire Aboriginal Partnerships portfolio accomplished over the year. We worked really hard to recruit the amazing individuals we have in order to establish a supportive, creative, fun, and hard-working group of humans to advance priorities and improve the accessibility and safety of health services for Aboriginal peoples across the region. 2022 brought increased travel within and across the territories of the seven Interior region First Nations, more time in community, relationship building, and the launch of the IH Aboriginal Health & Wellness Strategy (AHWS) 2022-2026. We increased the public accountability for our work in anti-racism and response to In Plain Sight and took steps to improve the effectiveness of our Partnership Accord Leadership Table. It was a year of setting our relatively new portfolio up for long-term success, and the start or strengthening of many partnerships.
Moving into 2023, I am excited to see what we can accomplish as a team. Aboriginal Health & Wellness has increased its capacity to be able to more fulsomely and thoughtfully implement the AHWS. We have multiple new positions posted that will work throughout the Health Authority to advance the priorities of First Nation, Métis, and urban Aboriginal health partners – creating safer spaces, better access to services in community whether in person or virtually, and taking innovative steps to increase information sharing and collaborative care planning. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I look forward to our paths crossing throughout the year.
Pishapmishko (Take care – Michif)
