Product of the Month
New kits and books have been arriving here by the dozen in preparation for Christmas (keep an eye on the website) but, our favourite new product this month has to be the Star Wars Crochet Kit. The kit (£19.99) contains a book with crochet patterns for twelve of the most iconic Star Wars characters plus a crochet hook and yarn to make Yoda and a Storm Trooper. The kit would surely delight a crocheting Star Wars fan or, if you crochet yourself, the little characters would put a smile on anyone’s face lucky enough to receive one! See the website for full details.
Freebie of the Month
We follow many crafting magazines on social media and share free patterns that we think will be of interest to you. The one that caught our eye this month is the Sew Magazines’ Blog ‘8 Reindeer projects for Christmas’.
Things get busy at this time of year for anyone creative. Luckily there are some great craft supply shows in November to stock up with materials and inspiration (plus great for getting some Christmas shopping done!). This November we will be at:-
3rd – 6th Nov Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Live, NEC, Birmingham.
11th – 13th Nov West Country Quilt & Textile Show, UWE Exhitibion Centre, Bristol.
17th – 19th Nov The Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show, ExCel, London
Make of the Month
We have had some more fabulous entries into our ‘Make of the Month’ competition recently but our favourite this month has to be Roy’s wooden creations. Below is one of his incredibly cute wooden mice (we haven't seen our plastic safety eyes used like this before!). We will be sharing another couple of Roy’s creatures on our Social Media pages this week if you want to take a look at his other creations. Well done Roy and your £5 web will be emailed to you this week.
To enter our Make of the Month competition, simply email us or share with us on Social Media a photo of your creation.
Tip of the Month
Do you make toys and find it hard to visualise where the eyes should be placed? If so, try using bobble headed pins or Positional Pin Eyes, as shown above, to get the placement and sizing right, before committing to inserting the eye.
If you are using safety eyes (which need to be inserted before you have stuffed the head) it can make it even harder. Try partially stuffing the head and then have a play around with the eye placement using pins or Positional Pin Eyes. Once you are happy, use an air erasable marker pen to mark where they need to go, take the pin eyes out, remove the stuffing and insert the safety eyes. Hope this helps!
Last but not least, Jess and I would like to say thank you to all of you who popped by our stand at the recent shows, it is always nice put a face to a name. Thank you also to all of you who engage with us on Social Media and share photos of your finished creations with us, we love seeing what you have made.
