Welcome to the latest edition of the Disability Loop newsletter. In this issue you’ll find a job advertisement from us here at AFDO for the Disability Loop project, lots of upcoming events and some new resources for people with intellectual disability and their families.

We are looking for a full-time Project Officer to work from our office at Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) on the Disability Loop project.

NDIS New World Conference: Disability in the 21st Century


NDIS will be holding a conference on disability and technology in the 21st century. The conference will include lots of different ways to learn about NDIS and technology, such as talks, workshops and a trade expo. The conference will take place in Brisbane from 27th – 29th October 2015.

Easy English & Plain English

 
My Choice Matters has developed a series of fact sheets about the NDIS, called Things you should know. Each fact sheet comes as an Easy English PDF, or Plain English DOCX. The fact sheets cover these topics:
  • Can I get the NDIS? 
  • What should I know about plans?
  • How do I manage funding?
  • How do I make my plan come true?
  • What if I am not happy?
You can get these fact sheets from My Choice Matters or from the Resources section of our website.

 is for people with intellectual disability, family members, professionals, advocates, disability service providers and anyone else interested in people with intellectual disability & the NDIS.

The Ombudsman is the independent and impartial watchdog for community and disability services in NSW.

Hear about how the NSW Ombudsman can help you in resolving problems with the NDIS.

Talk to the NSW Ombudsman if you have a concern or complaint about your service or the NDIS.

IDEAS - NSW (Napean Blue Mountains)

IDEAS (Information on Disability and Education Awareness Services) is hosting a series of NDIS community forums in NSW in July and August.

The forums will be an interactive 2 1/2 hour information session where you will learn lots of information about how the NDIS roll out will work in your local area. Free entry, free childcare available, refreshments provided.

The Queensland Government has an online calendar which has NDIS related events such as forums, workshops, information sessions and webinars. These are hosted by a range of service providers, advocacy organisations, and government. These events are designed to help Queenslanders prepare for the NDIS.
