Happy second birthday NDIS!
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) celebrates its second birthday today! The NDIS is now changing lives for people with disability, their families and their communities across seven sites.
Today, a new location opens in New South Wales at the Nepean Blue Mountains, initially for children and young people up to 18 years old.
Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) CEO Matthew Wright joined National Disability and Carers Alliance partners Ken Baker from National Disability Services, and Ara Creswell from Carers Australia, at the Every Australian Counts event NDIS Kicks Off in Penrith today. The event was a great success and over 1,200 people attended.
The forum was recorded and will be available later with captions and Auslan interpretation. We'll tell you when it's available.
In 2016 the NDIS will begin rolling out across the country. At the moment we know that the governments across Australia are talking to each other to work out exactly how this will happen. Each of the state and territory governments has to make a written agreement with the Australian government about what they will do.
The NDIS Progress Report is a document which talks about all of the things that the NDIS has done in the past 12 months. It talks about the big goals that the NDIS has, and then for each one it asks "what are we doing?" and "what have we learned?".
