Harris-Stowe’s Valerie Beeson Honored at NAIA National Convention

(April 15) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently honored Valerie Beeson, during its 2019 National Conference for 41 years of continued service to the Association.

Beeson, a 50-year employee of Harris-Stowe State University, has worked in various capacities at the University including Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Management. Beeson currently serves as an HSSU Athletics Department Advisor and as Eligibility Chair for the NAIA American Midwest Conference (AMC). Read More

Missouri Humanities Presents and Unveils Historical Marker on Harris-Stowe State University’s Campus

(April 18) A new historical marker and educational panel called “America’s Long Road to Freedom: Missouri’s Civil War” was unveiled April 18 on Harris-Stowe State University’s campus.

The panel presentation honored the United States Colored Troops, Hiram Reed, John Henderson, his wife, Mary Foote Henderson and mother-in-law, Eunice Foote. Read More

Students and Organizations Honored During 2019 Student Leadership Awards Celebration

(May 3) More than 25 Harris-Stowe State University students, faculty, staff, and student organizations were honored for exemplifying outstanding leadership to the campus and community during the Office of Student Engagement’s annual Student Leadership Awards Celebration. Students, faculty, staff, families, and community members attended the event held in the Emerson Performance Center, Bank of America Theater on Friday, May 3, 2019. Read More

More Than 100 Hornets Graduate Next Weekend

(May 6) Harris-Stowe State University will host commencement for 100 graduates next weekend in the Henry Givens, Jr. Administration Building, Main Auditorium.

These 100 graduates will add to HSSU’s graduation count bringing the total number of graduates for the 2018-2019 academic year to nearly 200 students- the University’s largest graduating class.

There were 91 students who participated in commencement exercises in December 2018 when the University held its first Fall Commencement.

The Spring ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Mrs. Sarah Archibald, Mr. David Carroll, and Dr. Christopher Young-El will be honored as Distinguished Alumni. The award recognizes University alumni who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations and careers have honored the legacy of excellence at the University.

The Class of 1969, who is celebrating 50 years, will also be recognized.

Admission to commencement is by ticket; however, the ceremony will be live-streamed on the University’s Facebook page @HarrisStowe. Graduates and guests are invited to use #HSSUGRAD19 on all social media platforms to follow the ceremony.
