Diocesan Evangelism Team for parish missions
As part of the legacy from the Crossroads mission with Archbishop Sentamu and the Northern Bishops in September 2016, we are developing a Diocesan Evangelism Team, made up of lay and ordained people and spanning the full breadth of church traditions.
The purpose of this team will be twofold
  1. To offer mission/outreach weekends to the parishes of our diocese.  The team will include a Bishop or Archdeacon, the Diocesan Missioner and a small number of people drawn from the Diocesan Evangelism Team.
  2. To offer people and resources to assist with local church outreach events.
The aim of the team is support the vision 2026 commitment to being witnesses to Jesus Christ by  nurturing and developing individuals and churches in the ministry of witness, outreach and evangelisation.
If you know someone who might be a suitable team member, or your parish is interested in hosting an outreach event in 2017 or a Mission Weekend during 2018, please email siobhan.trickett@blackburn.anglican.org for further information.
Thy Kingdom Come - 25th May to 4th June
Praying that people you know might know Jesus
Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, inviting Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ.  What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops’ of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has now grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.
Over 10 days (May 25-June 4), we are invited to join in with this global wave of prayer via www.thykingdomcome.global and to ‘Pledge2Pray’ individually, as a family, as a church or to run an event.

Archbishop Justin Welby says: In praying 'Thy Kingdom Come' we all commit to playing our part in the renewal of the nations and the transformation of communities."  The website includes links here to resources that you can download to use to help you as you plan to pray, as well as a link to a video here where the Archbishop of Canterbury shares why its important to pray. As well as the information for download on from the website link above, you can also order resources from CPO here.
Thy Kingdom Come Blackburn Prayer Event
Wednesday 24th May at 7.30pm at Blackburn Cathedral
Praying that people you know might know Jesus
On Wednesday May 24 at 7.30pm, on the eve of Thy Kingdom Come, Blackburn Diocese is holding a central prayer event at Blackburn Cathedral to which everyone is invited.  Please plan to come individually, as a family, as a church so that we can pray together and then go back to our communities to continue to pray during this period.
For more information about this prayer event at the Cathedral, please visit www.blackburn.anglican.org and find the event on the ‘What's on’ section at the right hand side of the homepage.
Church Planting Conference 13th - 15th June 2017
To help with our Vision intention of planting or renewing 50 new strategic congregations by 2026, we are organising a conference for those who are already involved in creating Fresh Expressions of Church or Church Planting, or those who are thinking about it.  We will spend time together looking at different aspects including building teams and how to help the Fresh Expression or Church Plant grow to maturity.  If you are interested, and can get a team or two or three to come along and work through your ideas together, please email siobhan.trickett@blackburn.anglican.org for more information.
On 16th September 2017, we are also planning a day looking at Church Planting.  More details will be sent later, but please make a note of the date now if you are interested in coming to this.

Brothers in Arms and Home Front - Front Line

Many of you have seen Brothers in Arms, our multi media presentation about the lives of the Chavasse Twins in WW1 and how their faith impacted their service.  Some of you may know that last year a second presentation was produced – Home Front – Front Line.  Featuring drama, film, music, images and sound, Home Front - Front Line tells the story of WW2 through the lives of a young couple; Lizzie a young woman serving on the home front with the Women’s Land Army and Tom serving on the front line with the army.  Based on historical events, Home Front - Front Line is an inspiring story of love, commitment, separation, conflict and faith.

Both presentations are intended to be put on in local churches so that people can bring along their non-Christian friends, families and work colleagues.
Available dates in 2017 are as follows:

  • Home Front - Front Line   19th June to 30th June
  • Brothers in Arms              16th October to 22nd October
  • Brothers in Arms              14th, 16th and 17th November

If you are interested in hosting the production during one of these periods and your church or a group of churches will be able to invite people along, then please get in touch with siobhan.trickett@blackburn.anglican.org for more information.

Mission Shaped Ministry - September 2017 to March 2018

Mission Shaped Ministry is a part time one year course that equips people for planting and sustaining fresh expressions of church.  Run in conjunction with the Methodist Church in Lancashire, it’s suitable for lay and ordained people who are thinking of starting a Fresh Expression or planting a new church congregation or are already involved with one.  It will next run in Blackburn Diocese from Saturday 30th September 2017 to March 2018.  The initial day will be a Saturday, and then over the next few months there will be four evening meetings in Bamber Bridge on Wednesdays (with the opportunity to go to Carlisle on Thursdays if that works better for you).  The course will end in March 2018 with a weekend conference.
More information about what the course involves can be found at www.missionshapedministry.org.  Once the details have been finalised, information will be on our own website, but you can start to think and pray now about whether this is for you.
