NZ Book Festival 2016 Gala Night

This year we are kicking off the NZ Book Festival with a gala night, which takes place on Friday 04 November from 6PM. The first part of the evening is for networking, followed by an array of guest presenters, who will share their insights and experiences with independent publishing.

This is a great opportunity for writers - published and aspiring - to mix and mingle with other writers and industry professionals in a social setting before the exhibition. It is also a great chance to learn more about publishing and marketing your books.

in the Loft Function Room

When:

at 6:00PM

Price:

Meet the presenters

Karen McKenzie from Lighthouse PR is a professional book publicist, and she will be sharing all you need to know about publicity for your book. This includes writing a great bio and media release, and what to expect when employing a publicist. Karen also writes under the name ‘Karen McMillan’ so can talk about publicity from both sides of the fence, and she’ll have tips for doing interviews and events.
James Russell was a journalist until he was made redundant in February this year. Luckily his self-published trilogy of children's picture books have become best-sellers in New Zealand, and next year will be published in the US/Canada, the UK and China. He is currently working on the first of a series of children's novels, the first of which will be published early next year.
Carole Beu has owned and operated the award-winning Women's Bookshop in Ponsonby for 27 years. She has been on the Board of the Auckland Writers Festival since its beginnings and has organised and chaired many author events over the years. An avid reader, she reviews books on National Radio.
Debbie Lee has a breadth of experience in the publishing industry in both a sales and commissioning capacity.  In 2014 she joined Ingram Lightning Source and will be speaking about the changing face of publishing, with a particular focus on the ‘Print-on-Demand and global distribution’ solution.
