Collecting Contacts

Collect names and email addresses from visitors.  Signing them up to your mailing list is a great way to stay in touch. Consider a creative giveaway to help you collect names.

At the 2014 festival I gave out (fake) butterflies on a stick in exchange for contact details.  I bought them cheaply in bulk and watched them wandering around the festival.  Other visitors asked where they'd got the butterfly from which in turn gave me more customers happy to give me their details and look at my book.

Quick Note: I bulk bought my butterflies from a $2 shop.
Book Pricing

Make you book easy to buy.  Round the price of your book up or down to make it an easy $10, $20, $30, $40 purchase.  You might decide to offer a show special or if rounding up adding a value added extra.  It could be a personalised pen printed with your website, a postcard showing an image from your book or a discount voucher on their next book purchase.

 * Consider tying books together with ribbon as an 'author collection'
 * Pre-wrap signed books as presents, with gift tags
 * Offer free delivery of your book(s)
 * Have a goodie bag for customers to put your book and purchases into
 * Offer a sample e-book chapter of your next book

Quick note:  An ATM will be onsite for eftpos withdrawals.  Because it's hired there will be a small charge for each withdrawal.  The onsite café will also be offering cash withdrawals for customers.

Display Books

Make sure your books are easy to see.  Your book cover is perfect so make sure they can easily see it.  Consider a good sized glossy poster of your cover as a good long-term marketing investment.  Consider doing one for the back cover too so visitors can read it while you're dealing with customers.

I suggest having a small number of display books on your table.  Expect these to be flicked through by many hands.  When you make the sale pull out a pristine copy from your stock.  Don't forget to sign and dedicate it for them.

Quick note: At the end of weekend you could consider selling your display copies at a reduced price.
