‘The NZ Book Festival’ Celebrating New Zealand Indie Books

So, what’s your book about?

We’ve all been asked this question.

A lot of us have answered with “Ummm, well it’s, ah …” After this we’ll ramble on vaguely for far too long, leaving the person asking none the wiser for all the words we’ve just thrown at them. In my case, no two answers are ever the same.

However, this simple question is surprisingly difficult to answer. How much is too much? How little leaves your potential reader floundering? The idea is to sell the essence of the book; to give them enough to pique their interest and leave them wanting more.

Writing a book?
New writing competition for NZ authors

The NZ Book Festival has launched a new writing competition for NZ authors who are writing a book and wish to publish it independently. Click here for details.

The core sponsor for the competition is independent publishing business BigWords-Books. A long-time supporter of the NZ Book Festival, BigWords-Books owner Fiona Cole decided to run the competition as a way to give emerging indie authors the chance to get their dream of becoming a published author off to a great start, and to showcase the level of professionalism that can be achieved through the independent publishing route.

The winner receives an indie publishing prize pack of professional services required to turn their manuscript into a published book, valued at over $3,500 NZD. Click here for details.

What has the NZBF team been up to?

We're winding down with the must-do preparations as we gear up for the biggest day of the year.
1. Exhibitor Spaces
It's nearly too late to grab your exhibitor space at this years festival. Why not grab your books, grab a friend with books, and share a table. Split the costs but not the fun.
2. ZR Southcombe Kids'Zone Storytime spots
There's four spot left to leave your special story in the minds of our youngest readers.
3. Advertising - We've got it covered
Alongside our social media presence you'll find our posters clinging to billboards and cafe' noticeboards in Mt Eden and the beautiful surrounding suburbs. You'll hear us on The Breeze 93.4FM  and see us in Auckland's Central Leader newspaper and somewhere else very exciting. But it's under wraps so... Secret Squirrel.
4. Our Super Sponsors
Have you met our amazing sponsors. They've been busy donating goodies for 100 goody bags (for the first 100 visitors), spot prizes and a Major Grand Prize of a night for two at either the JetPark Hotel in Auckland or Rotorua. With a full cooked breakfast included. Entry into the draw is as easy as buying a book on the day. Every book purchase gives another entry into the draw.
5. Food. Did someone mention food?
Just to prove how much we love food too we've invited Pancakes are Delicious and MamaYoyas to be a part of the festivities. With barrista coffee, tea, cold drinks and hot, cold, sweet and savoury yummies you can't go wrong. They've even got menu choices for people with special dietary requirements.
NZBF Gala Night is on the 10th November

Come and meet Deborah Challinor, Stu Duval, Kirsten McKenzie and some other mad as writers.
