Club Development News

September 2015

Dear Members,

It's been another busy few months for the Club Development team, from attending meetings with the Lawn Tennis Association and a local architect, to developing our Financial Model and hosting a visit from Cathie Sabin, President of the LTA.

Whilst the architect's initial plans have proved too costly, we now have a clearer understanding of what we can and can't afford and will be coming up with scaled down plans in the coming weeks.

We've also been busy planning some exciting social and fundraising events which we hope you'll get involved with.

What's been happening?
  1. The core project group have met with the LTA to discuss the club's legal status, income streams (including new income streams like a gym), management structure, project costs and financial projections.
  2. The group also met with an architect to brief him on proposals.  Unfortunately the architect's first set of plans aren't affordable, so we're now scaling these down.
  3. We were delighted to welcome Cathie Sabin, President of the LTA, and Richard Henshaw, Chairman of Dorset LTA, to the club on 18th August (see below) and they were very supportive of our plans to develop the club.  This is important as LTA funding is critical to the project.
  4. A lot of work has gone into developing a Business Plan and Financial Model, which puts us in a much stronger position to manage the project successfully.

What's next?
  1. Scaled down plans will now be prepared for the clubhouse and grounds, including those features deemed essential to the club's development and improving its income stream.
  2. These plans will be presented to members for comments and feedback, including Saturday morning consultation 'surgeries' (on the first Saturday of each month).
  3. Also keep an eye on the Club Development noticeboard (in the foyer) for the latest news.
Other news:
  1. Have you spotted the brown sign to East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club at the junction to Salterns Road?  Well done to tennis member Kate Tunks for negotiating this with Poole Council.
  2. Head coach Brian McFadden is building links with Whizz Kidz' youth club at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole, to introduce the youngsters to wheelchair tennis.

Fundraising:
  • Our new fundraising group has come up with a busy programme of social events for the next few months, with all profits going to our Club Development fund, so we hope you can join us!
  • Events include:
    • Skittles Evening (26 Sep)
    • Fireworks Night (31 Oct)
    • Kids Got Talent (21 Nov)
