Bet on These Home Improvements in 2015

 

If you're considering giving your home an upgrade this year, it can be overwhelming to choose what home features need an overhaul. Trends seem to change all the time, and the last thing you want is to spend money on costly improvements that will soon be out of date.
 
Real estate brokerage Redfin recently analyzed home features that are most desirable to potential home buyers. First, they asked local real estate agents to take note to what features were cropping up the most on home tours. Then they searched for those design keywords and took note of what trends experienced the most growth in popularity in the last five years.

ASU report: Metro Phoenix home prices hit 7-year high

Metro Phoenix's housing market ended 2014 on a high, after several months of flat prices and sagging sales.
 
Valley home sales climbed 29 percent during December, and the area's median home sales price increased 2 percent to $215,000, according to new report from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Home Prices Are Up, Supply Is Down—Expect Bidding Wars

It’s getting more expensive to buy a house. Prices rose 6% in the fourth quarter of 2014 as buyers competed for fewer and fewer available homes for sale, according to new data from the National Association of Realtors®.
 
The NAR report shows most cities (86%) are experiencing rising prices, with fewer available homes to choose from. Just 24 cities, or 14%, recorded lower median prices in 2014 than in 2013.

Home Automation Comes of Age

A futuristic kitchen designed by Virginia Tech University researchers includes a dishwasher that sends a text or email when it is out of soap, a microwave that listens for the moment when popcorn stops popping and a pantry that can report low supplies.
 
But it will be a while before most big U.S. home builders offer such automation on a mass scale.

Stars add luster to metro Phoenix housing market

Athletes, celebrities and sports fans converged in metro Phoenix during the past week for the Pro Bowl, Waste Management Phoenix Open and Super Bowl XLIX.
 
Some sports celebrities didn't have to search for a hotel or house to rent. Many well-known athletes and sports commentators own Valley homes.

March is one of our busiest months of the year, with baseball, art festivals, garden events -- this is the place to be in the springtime.
