Spreading AWIR awareness this year has been a full time job for the Board. Rapid growth of the organization has been achieved with the assistance of a multitude of partners, collaborators, the Presidential vision with Dr Grace Wright and superlative Board member activity. Our newsletter this month highlights the achievements of AWIR for 2016.
No organization can function without the steady and diligent work of its Board. Our meeting in New Orleans in February created the framework for this year’s West Coast and East Coast meetings and Local chapter formation.
AWIR AT CONGRESS OF CLINICAL RHEUMATOLOGY
Looking to enhance membership AWIR exhibited at the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology. During the Congress we met new members while introducing AWIR to rheumatology fellows, PAs and NPs.
We hosted a Latte N Learn alongside our Janssen sponsors. This learning session outlined the role of female leaders and our need to enhance female rheumatology leadership.

AWIR LOCAL CHAPTERS IN 2016
Not everyone can get to the AWIR meeting and the concept of Local Chapters has solved this dilemma. In October 2016 local chapters were launched in NC, TX, NY and CA.
Chapters are being expanded across the nation. Each chapter will have a local leader and offer a unique AWIR experience for the locale of these AWIR members. Stay tuned and see the local chapter info on www.awirgroup.org.
AWIR AT ACR 2016
AWIR was very busy at ACR 2016 in Washington DC. Highlights include: exhibiting, presenting in Innovation Theaters and Symposia, attending committee meetings as well as meeting sponsors, partners and collaborators. We debuted our “Who We Are“ video by AWIR partner Context Media Health. Our collaboration is coming to many rheumatologic practices.
AWIR in 2017
2016 was an exciting year for AWIR. 2017 will bring expansion of Local Chapters, State society exhibitions in multiple states, CME for our annual meeting, CME course endorsements, Alliance of Women in Rheumatology clinical trial and a visit to EULAR.
