The 2nd Annual Edmonton Pride Run & Walk takes place on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Emily Murphy Park (11904 Emily Murphy Park Rd NW). The run/walk begins at 10:00 AM sharp, so please plan to arrive early.

Fun, colourful, and creative attire is more than welcome, but keep in mind that this is a family-friendly event.

If you haven't already registered, you can still do so until June 9. There are just over 100 spots remaining, so don't wait too long or you might miss out.

Race Package Pick Up

You can pick up your race package (including t-shirts for those that ordered them) in advance on Thursday June 9 and Friday June 10 between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM at United Cycle (7620 Gateway Blvd. NW). You'll find a United Cycle coupon in your race package, good for 15% off all regular-priced active wear, running shoes, swim, and triathlon gear.

Race package pick up will also be available on the day of the race starting at 8:30 AM in Emily Murphy Park. Pick up will remain open until 9:30 AM (30 minutes before the race starts).

Collect Pledges & Donate

One of the goals of the Edmonton Pride Run & Walk is to raise money to support educational opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals in the Edmonton area. Proceeds and donations generated from the 2016 event will be contributed to the Orlando Books Collective Entrance Award Endowment Fund, which supports an entrance award for students at the University of Alberta like David Lacy who received the award last year.

"I am honoured and humbled to be given this award, when I see so many people around me who are working for the promotion of LGBTQ+ rights. As a young queer person I see a huge need for the creating of LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces in order to maintain and promote a sense of queer identity and community. The Pride Run & Walk is a great way to encourage active living and healthy bodies, while providing a LGBTQ+ inclusive space."

Last year we were able to contribute $8,100 to this worthwhile cause and we're hoping to top that amount this year.

Race Day Details

8:30 AM - Race package pick up and bag check open
9:30 AM - Race package pick up closes
9:45 AM - Pre-race announcements
10:00 AM - Race start
10:30 AM - Post-race BBQ begins
11:15 AM - Post-race announcements and prize draws
12:30 PM - Bag check closes

Parking

There is parking available at Emily Murphy Park, but with up to 500 participants and over 40 volunteers parking may be limited. We encourage you to carpool, walk, ride, or take public transit. There may be additional parking at Hawrelak Park or the University of Alberta, which are both within walking distance of Emily Murphy Park.

Bag Check

A complimentary bag check will be available for participants on race day starting at 8:30 AM. Items will be available for pick up until 12:30 PM. The bag check will be located beside the registration tent at Picnic Site #1 near the race finish line in Emily Murphy Park. Bags will not be provided, so please bring your own. Bags will be checked based on your bib number, so please keep your bib until you have picked up your bag.

Post-Race Celebration and Pride BBQ

Our friends at Team Edmonton are sponsoring a free BBQ near the finish line in Emily Murphy Park at the conclusion of the race. This is open to race participants, volunteers, and anyone else that would like to join in.

Weather

The current forecast is showing a possibility of rain so please dress accordingly. The run/walk will go ahead rain or shine or snow! The first 1.5 kilometres of the route is on a non-paved trail that may become soft and muddy if it rains leading up to or on the day of the event. This may make it more difficult for those with strollers, chariots, or young children.
