Think the luck of the Irish! This month at our Michigan Design Center display we are using the coordinating color green. Artists on view are Gerald Mulka, Jamie Thomson, Laura Whitesides Host and Diane Krempa. Once again we will be having an extended space.
Diana Krempa, a LSG member retired from teaching her Special Needs Groups. This was a program that she had started in 2014. At the time she was approached to design a program for this wonderous population.

It began at the Macomb Township Parks and Recreation site and  had small numbers to start. By the second year it had grown to 2 different time slots on the same day as the room was getting crowded with 2 group homes from Capac and Marine City and her growing list of independent students.

In 2015, Diana began a second group in St Clair Shores-- that for school age students and the program met on Tuesday evenings.

With Covid everything came to a stop-- and slowly resumed late Fall 2021 and this was at a Washington Township Methodist Church with her Capac group and new members from Port Huron. Starting in 2022 she resumed at MTPR site with all new members.

Diana was now designing and preparing for 50 students and she needed to make changes and step back. Over last summer she sought out someone to replace her and to continue the program. She was successful with a fabulous person at St Clair Shores site, Helen Horn, discovered via her Wayne State contacts, a group that specializes working with Special Needs students all over the state. The name of it is Michigan Art Access and the Director is Michael Gielniak.

They are all over the state and they were looking for a placement in Macomb County and here she was operating on her own at 2 locations.

Diana ended in December.  Her original group that meets at the Washington Township Methodist Church on Thursday has been named Club Create Matt Krempa. The new groups that she was working with from Shelby, Macomb, Roseville and New Haven have been named Club Create Heart of Macomb. In both of these sites which is found at the Michigan Arts Access site-- acknowledge Diana as the founder of both programs in memory of her own special needs son, Matty, who sadly passed away.

LSG is proud of Diana and her gift of giving. We are grateful that she is a part of our artist family.
