Statues that go bump in the night...
Rumour has it our statues have been known to come to life at night... Explore the Museum after dark if you dare! Drop in to have a go at our Twilight trail and to bring our statues to life by torchlight. Just don't forget to bring your torch!
Twilight at the Museums is a FREE after-dark event for families where museums and collections across the city open their doors for a variety of torch-lit and illuminated adventures. With 12 organisations offering free drop-in activities and themed trails across 10 locations, there is plenty for families to enjoy.
Cut-paper artist Vanessa Stone explores the classical body – its S-curves and rippled muscles, its profiles and rear-views – in this exhibition of custom-made and unique artworks inspired by Greek and Roman sculptures in the Museum's Cast Gallery.
In December, the Museum welcomed a new cast: The Terme Boxer. Beginning life as a bright-white plaster cast, the Terme Boxer has been recently restored by former Fitzwilliam Museum technician Bob Bourne; his transformation from chalky whiteness to burnished bronze gives visitors the chance to see a magnificent replica of Hellenistic Greek sculpture up close and personal.
