JUNE 2017

SUMMER AT BISHOP KELLEY

So, what do you do all summer? With the school year behind us and the halls relatively quiet, Bishop Kelley High School switches gears. Most of the faculty is gone for the summer with a few remaining to teach summer classes. Many of our coaches are around for summer workouts or for their personal summer camps. Our facilities staff is hard at work fixing what is broken and doing some preventative maintenance ahead of the students' return in August.

Administratively, we're doing a lot of planning for the 2017-2018 school year. We're finalizing events, working with end of the year surveys to look closely at our strengths and weaknesses, and making a few last minute hires. At this point, we're looking for two math teachers and someone to assist us in our iConnect program for students with learning differences. We also have the great task of making the schedules for our 900+ students. Enrollment is up and we're seeing record demand so this task gets more challenging by the day. But we're on it!

We are also finishing out our Believe in Kelley Annual Fund working to get to our goal of $500,000 by June 30th. If you've not given yet, we need you! If we reach our goal we'll be able to increase tuition assistance, get new furniture for some key spots in the daily lives of our students, and improve our sound systems throughout the campus. Each of these projects is needed and within our reach.

Lastly, we're looking forward to welcoming our new principal on July 1st. Mr. Jim Franz will join us soon and start immediately to carry on the great academic tradition of Bishop Kelley and find ways to keep us on the path of continual improvement. Jim's presence will be a great addition to our school. Please pray for him as he transitions from Tyler, TX back to his hometown of Tulsa.

Please pray for us as these summer months get started. Thank you for your support!

In Christ,

Rev. Brian O'Brien
President

CONGRATS CLASS OF 2017!

ANNUAL FUND CLOSING SOON!

Below is our plan to achieve the school’s highest-ever annual fund goal of $500,000 by June 30th, 2017. By the end of May, we have reached $390,000, which is 78% of our goal, with one month left in the fiscal year.

Our purpose for the annual fund this year is to provide three F's: Furniture, Frequency and Financial Aid. The tables in our cafeteria are 23 years old and in need of replacement. Our PA system, original to the school in 1960, needs to be replaced and expanded to new facilities on campus. We will add new sound systems in the chapel, cafeteria and both gyms if we are successful in reaching the $500,000 goal. Nearly one-fourth of our students are dependent on Financial Aid. All three of these goals, with the latter being of utmost importance, can only be achieved through the generosity of our donors.

On June 7th, we are recognizing Gary Oberste's 40 years of service at Bishop Kelley. If you would like to make a Believe in Kelley gift in his name, go to www.bishopkelley.org/give or call Doug Thomas in the Advancement Office at (918) 607-9115.

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF FATHER O'BRIEN

On May 26th, BK President Father Brian O'Brien celebrated 10 years of being a priest. In honor of this achievement, the Father Brian O'Brien Endowed Fund for Tuition Assistance was established as a surprise to him. The fund is now up to $40,000.

The current, combined value of BK's endowment funds is nearly $9.5M, not including additional monies in the plant fund to address unexpected needs.  BK's investments typically earn 5% annually.  So in the case of the fund of $40,000 named for Fr. O'Brien, it should earn $2,000 by next summer, which helps even more families afford a Bishop Kelley education.

The BK Advancement Office is working hard to double BK's endowment to $20M by 2020.  That goal is attainable with your assistance and the help of many other supporters.

Please note that Bishop Kelley hopes to grow each of its endowment funds. As such, if you would like to contribute to the fund in Father O'Brien's honor, please visit our giving page.
