News from our local partners

Talking to people affected by cancer

The aim of The Macmillan Living With And Beyond Cancer Programme is to improve cancer care and support by 2020.  The team are looking for the help of the experts; people that have been directly impacted by cancer, as a patient or carer.
They have drafted Principles for Patient Engagement to ensure they involve people affected by cancer and act on what they say.  These principles will set the gold standard for involvement across the region.
This is your opportunity to have your say; have they got it right? What do they need to add in / remove?
You can find the Principles for Patient Engagement here, you can comment directly on this blog or email Richard Metcalfe, Macmillan Programme Lead (
There is a lot to celebrate in local cancer care and support this month, find out more in the team’s July ebulletin. You can sign up to receive the ebulletins by emailing Laura Boyd (
Sent on behalf of Healthwatch

Healthwatch wanted to find out more about people from Black Minority Ethnic communities experiences of health and social care in the City. They asked people about their experiences of primary care, mental health and social care services. People were asked to think of what was good and bad about services and how it could be better. Please find the event briefing from the 7 December 2015 here.
Grant Aid Consultation

As part of the Council’s Grant Aid review there is an online survey which we would greatly appreciate you completing. The survey asks for views on proposals and priorities for the various funds. The survey can be found here and contains information on the proposals as well as the questions. We anticipate it will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The closing date is Monday 5 September.
CQC Inspections
The CQC Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust Inspection will take place from 13 September 2016 as well as The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust CQC Inspection which takes place from 27 September 2016.

The CQC would like feedback from patients who have used these services in the last 12 months. Peoples experiences – both positive and negative - helps them to build up a picture of current performance before going into the hospital.
They are keen for patients and families to share their experience in the following ways:

This follows the independent review of data security, consent and opt-outs by National Data Guardian Dame Fiona Caldicott. The review includes:

  • 10 new data security standards
  • a method of testing compliance with these standards
  • a new consent model for data sharing in health and social care
