Dear Hill Country Friends and Neighbors,

At last, fall has arrived with cooler air, some welcome rain, and a little color—the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy the Hill Country with family and friends.
The Hill Country Alliance (HCA) recently hosted our in-person Leadership Summit, at the wonderful Hall at Jester King with more than 150 friends attending. Truly, it felt like a Hill Country family reunion, and HCA did what we do best by identifying, supporting and connecting leaders from around our region with a platform for sharing stories and successes.
One of those leaders is Rebeca Gibson, mayor pro tem of Bandera. Her story below—about the affect HCA had on her ability to lead in her community—is an excellent snapshot of the power and reach of our work.

“As I wrap up my third term on the Bandera City Council, I think back on the many ways the Hill Country Alliance made me a better elected official and leader, through its information resources and partnership.
Before attending a workshop hosted by HCA, I’d never given much thought to light pollution or night skies preservation. I was inspired by the passion and optimism of the HCA staff and quickly became acquainted with the full breadth of HCA’s focus in our region. From economic development, infrastructure repair, low-impact development, riparian restoration, and land use planning, HCA helped me cultivate solutions and create a more resilient future for my community.
Through my connection to HCA, Bandera’s new vision includes:
  • Protecting the riverside area along the Medina River in our city park;
  • A new outdoor lighting ordinance that will protect our view of the night sky;
  • A $2 million grant to improve our city’s aging stormwater infrastructure, and;
  • New ideas for working with developers in our rural community.
I know these actions will add value for decades and would not have been possible without HCA.” ~Rebeca Gibson
Rebeca’s story is one of many positive outcomes made possible through the support and expertise of HCA staff. We are truly privileged to serve our region in this way, but we cannot do this important work without you!
Today I invite you to support HCA with a generous one-time gift or by joining our Sustaining Neighbors program and giving monthly.
