Pharmacy Advice Audit 2022: Please undertake this week

Community pharmacy contractors and their teams are being asked to take part in PSNC’s latest Pharmacy Advice Audit this week.
South Staffordshire LPC is supporting PSNC's Advice Audit, which asks community pharmacy teams to record information about the informal healthcare advice that they are giving over the course of a single day, with the results providing valuable evidence for use in PSNC's funding discussions with HM Government and the NHS.
This is PSNC's third Advice Audit and, following the huge numbers taking part across the country in previous years, they hope to once again use the findings to help build a compelling case to put to policymakers.
Pharmacy teams are requested to carry out the audit on just a single day this week (w/c 31st January) and, once completed, submit their data to PSNC via PharmOutcomes.
The LPC would be very grateful to anyone able to take part in this year’s audit – the more pharmacies who are able to do so, the stronger the evidence is.
Full details and resources are available from:

Additionally, PSNC is increasingly hearing from pharmacy teams who are struggling to cope with ongoing financial and operational pressures, and who are concerned about the impact that the strain on the sector will ultimately have on patients.

We are continuing to raise this with policy-makers, making clear the consequences that their decisions are having. To further support those discussions, we have today launched two surveys to gather more data on the pressures that everyone working in community pharmacy is under and the impact that this is having.

The surveys will give us a snapshot of the scale of the problems and the results will be used in our ongoing discussions with NHS England & NHS Improvement and the Department of Health and Social Care. They will also help us to continue to make pharmacy’s case in our conversations with MPs, Ministers and through the national media.

The surveys are both as short as possible and should take around 15 minutes to complete.

There are two separate surveys for:

  1. Pharmacy business owners/head office representatives
This survey covers the pressures being experienced by businesses, looking at the overall running of the pharmacy business including financial and staffing pressures. Please note that only one representative from each pharmacy business should complete this survey – please check this is the case before doing so.
  1. Pharmacy teams
This survey covers the day-to-day pressures experienced by pharmacy teams including supply chain issues, patient interactions/experience and staff morale.

Independent contractors or pharmacy owners who also work day-to-day in a pharmacy are encouraged to complete both surveys.

We very much appreciate your support in completing these surveys, particularly at this very busy time.

Please find detailed in this letter sent to contractors this week, HEE funded places for pharmacist independent prescribing, primarily aimed at community pharmacy employer organisations.
The offer is specifically targeted at community pharmacists (but others may also be eligible to apply – see attachment) and we would like to enourage all community pharmacists to consider applying to access the training where they are ready to proceed. within the timescales specified for this cohort; further opportunities will become available however if you are ready to proceed immediately (including having access to a Designated Medical Prescriber (DMP)
The full information is available on the HEE Pharmacy Integration Programme web page.
Two modules to support you in learning about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a commonly mis-diagnosed condition so a great example of an area to use for your reflective account.
Each clinical module is just over 20 minutes and covers how to recognise the signs and symptoms, as well as what advice you can give your patients
To help support you we have also produced a foundation module on IBD which the whole pharmacy team can watch
The pharmacy team module covers the basics of IBD and how they can best identify and support patients
