Jamie and Julianna attempt each week to entice and inspire all the kids to check in or create an image that is unrelated to their virtual reality characters. For a recent check-in we asked them, “Who is your real-life superhero?”  It could be a parent, a teacher, a pet, a friend, someone you look up to, or who cares and loves you.

A 7-year-old student at Western Foothills Regional Program in Rumford has been fixated on the character “Sonic” and insists on creating this virtual character no matter what mediums or themes we deliver.  We have noticed a pattern where he will struggle on one aspect of this character and become increasingly frustrated and to the point where his hands shake

This young boy thought about this question and cleverly responded, “My uncle dressed in a Spider-Man outfit!”  As he began creating the face his frustrations increased, exclaiming, "I messed up! It doesn't look right!"

With the assistance of the Therapeutic Arts Assistant who patiently stuck with him and calmly offered options, he proceeded to create the face that he had been struggling with. He problem-solved by filling in the empty spaces and leaving the white as the eyes which was the opposite of his previous five attempts. He left the group proud and a bit exhausted after everything he had processed.

A Biddeford exhibit - this week only!

This month, we closed an incredible chapter serving the Bacon Street neighborhood for 15 years. We celebrated with a Biddeford-ArtVan You Neighborhood art show at Nick Blunier's, Common Roots Studio in Biddeford. All this week, explore the collection!

(Youth Artists above) at the opening on Monday - Luke, Aviana, Taylor, their grandma and little brother all came along. What a blast! A big success!
