U.lab Online Courses Now Open for Registration

Now in its sixth year, u.lab, the global online course of study and practice offered free of charge by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Presencing Institute, is open for registration. Starting on 8 September, you will learn a framework, approach and set of tools to enhance your personal and collective leadership in times of great change and complexity.  This is done by developing your capacity to listen deeply, discover ways of having “different” conversations, bring in voices from the margins and work collaboratively and creatively to enact personal, organisational or community change.

Find out more about u.lab & how to register

While all the materials can be accessed online and worked through by individuals on their own, the emphasis in u.lab is on practicing the learning and making a change in the “real world”. As such, u.lab encourages participants to enhance their individual impact by connecting with others and developing relationships and support locally and globally using social media and in-person “coaching circles” and “hubs” (local study and practice groups). This is facilitated through u.lab but you can also connect to other participants in Scotland through the U Lab Scotland Facebook page and #ulabscot and #ulab on Twitter.

As part of our One Thing at a Time programme, Martin Kalungu-Banda of the Presencing Institute co-hosted a number of session of Leading in Unknowing, using the same approach introduced within u.lab.

Apply To Our Leadership and Facilitation Programme

“This was the most amazing course I have ever been on in my 17yrs in Public Sector.
It challenged me and took me to a depth of work that I never expected but was very open to.
I am truly honoured to have been part of such a wonderful group of people from Scotland that took part. ”

As part of the development of this Collective Leadership offer, we are bringing experienced facilitators and leaders together for a 4-day residential programme to deepen their own leadership and facilitation practices. The next programme will take place 17-20 November 2020. It is hoped that, given the uncertainty with Covid-19, this programme will go ahead as planned.

You can now apply for this programme. The application deadline is 30 September 2020. You can find out more about this programme via the button below. Please also have a look at our freshly published thought piece on Facilitation for Collective Leadership on our Blog pages.

Come along to our Holding the Space Event

We have been working with Creative Director of Hidden Giants, Paul Gorman, exploring the ways that we can ‘hold the space’ on-line. In these experiential sessions we will be exploring:

• The benefits of doing nothing other than holding the space
• The tension between fast/slow decision making
• The need to meddle beyond our given silos
• The joy of collaborating with complete strangers

Please join us for the joy of meeting strangers you never knew you needed to meet!
