A few notes for week beginning 26th September 2021

This coming Sunday will be busy! At 6.30pm this Sunday, Revd Emily will lead a evening ZOOM Godly Play session. Meeting ID: 852 8361 1760; Passcode: 837819…. Morning worship is Live from Erdington, In the Afternoon, Circuit Kids at Stockland Green. Thank you to Revd Emily who has produced the online sermon this week… which can be accessed on our circuit YouTube channel.

Malcolm writes from Zambia. The twins have now completed their first week in the classroom. They have made friends and seem to be settling in well. We are looking forward to seeing them for the weekend next Friday. Gina attended her first senior management meeting yesterday at the UCZ Synod headquarters about two miles from where we live. It included all the Presbytery Bishops from around the country and heads of institutions. Having begun at 8.00 hours.. it continued for over 12 hours.. Gina arrived home around 21.00hours.. Meanwhile, I finished buying some of things for the house… TV, garden chairs etc and putting up family pictures. Last week, we took a twenty one year old young man who has become addicted drugs to a Teen Challenge residential recovery project.

Please see the note below from Revd Stephen inviting you to help.

We would welcome offers by preachers, worship leaders… and others to lead the evening online worship.

Sponsor a chess set

Dear Sutton Park Friends,

You will know that I am currently teaching two days a week at a school in Tipton, and have recently re-started the Chess Club there. However, the equipment with which I have been provided is of low quality - many of the sets are ’toy’ ones from the Early Learning Centre, and the pieces are the usual hotch-potch of cheap wood and hollow plastic.

In order for the game to be taken seriously I am keen to buy some club-standard sets, which retail at £15 each. My goal is to raise enough to buy ten sets.

I am utterly convinced that learning and playing chess improves the life chances of all students, whatever their backgrounds. It helps improve focus, memory and discipline, and can bring order to the most chaotic lives. For some students, they rarely get the chance to play any board games with an adult at home. By sponsoring a chess set you wold be contributing to the positive mental development of pupils living in a tough part of town. I, and they, would be extremely grateful for your generosity.

Thank you in advance.

Stephen

Street Pastors

Erdington Street Pastors

Would like to be part of the Team?

We are now urgently in need of Street Pastors that would patrol the High Street and around schools. Full training would be provided. It is FREE for the first 20 including licensing and uniform. You need minimum of 2 -3 patrols per month and good if you can do more.

Volunteers should be over 18 (there is no upper age limit), active Christians and willing to complete 2 sets of training …virtual and 1 day in-person including sessions on Police, Community, Youth culture, drugs and homelessness. A DBS (Criminal Records Bureau Check) is required and references are obtained before joining a team of at least three/four people, each of whom will work for 3 hours together in the afternoons during the week and Saturday morning. A distinctive uniform is worn when volunteering so people know who we are.

Additionally, we are also in need of Prayer Pastors who will back up the Street Pastors while they are on the field and occasionally be in communication with them while they are on the field.

Please contact/submit your form to Jean Morton on erdington@streetpastors.org.uk And if you need any clarification, you can always contact any of the management committee member.

Management Committee
