A few notes from Malcolm (Superintendent) after discussion with The Circuit Leadership Team.

There have been a couple of recent developments which Malcolm wants and needs to share with you.

Firstly a couple of months ago Malcolm received a request from the Connexional team to host a Deacon and her teenage children so that she could contribute to the life of Sutton Park circuit for one year . It was made clear that this would be of no cost to the circuit and was a gift from the Methodist Connexion. The circuit was considered the right sort of nurturing environment for Deacon Irene Tafirenyika. Deacon Irene will work alongside Deacon Marilyn.

When Malcolm received this offer, he was mindful of a conversation with Revd Emily Young about moving to be part of the Nechells community. Over the last couple of months Malcolm and Marilyn have been exploring along with Emily the possibility of Deacon Irene moving into the manse in Erdington. We can now announce that Emily will be able to be in Aston for a year. Deacon Irene and her teenage children will move into Emily’s manse in time for the beginning of the school year.

The second communication which arrived after the publication of the last bulletin is from the Assistant Secretary of Conference to say that there will be a presidential inquiry (PI) of Sutton Park circuit with special focus on Four Oaks Methodist Church. Malcolm warmly welcomes that this will happen although not knowing the full details and not being in a position to share more information as to why this presidential inquiry (PI) is being put in place. Malcolm has responded to the Assistant Secretary of Conference that he is keen for the presidential inquiry(PI) to begin as soon as possible - hopefully by the beginning of September.

On 5th of September there will be a morning Circuit Service which will be live streamed as we begin the new Methodist year, this will include a welcome to Deacon Irene, and our new Circuit Stewards, Peter and Deborah.

Malcolm is booked on a flight to Zambia with his family on 9th September, returning towards the beginning of October. Gina and the twins will stay in Zambia as Gina takes up her role as Health Secretary to the United Church of Zambia. Whilst in Zambia, Malcolm will be available via Email, Zoom and WhatsApp.

Please do scroll down to find the new items, not least the recently added Methodist Conference digest in information about a Childrens activity at Streetly this coming Wednesday.

Street Pastors

Erdington Street Pastors

Would like to be part of the Team?

We are now urgently in need of Street Pastors that would patrol the High Street and around schools. Full training would be provided. It is FREE for the first 20 including licensing and uniform. You need minimum of 2 -3 patrols per month and good if you can do more.

Volunteers should be over 18 (there is no upper age limit), active Christians and willing to complete 2 sets of training …virtual and 1 day in-person including sessions on Police, Community, Youth culture, drugs and homelessness. A DBS (Criminal Records Bureau Check) is required and references are obtained before joining a team of at least three/four people, each of whom will work for 3 hours together in the afternoons during the week and Saturday morning. A distinctive uniform is worn when volunteering so people know who we are.

Additionally, we are also in need of Prayer Pastors who will back up the Street Pastors while they are on the field and occasionally be in communication with them while they are on the field.

Please contact/submit your form to Jean Morton on erdington@streetpastors.org.uk And if you need any clarification, you can always contact any of the management committee member.

A complete service for Easter Sunday 6 with an address exploring the parable of the vine. There are prayers, a reading, songs and an address from IDEAS to make a rich visual worship experience. The service is led by Rev'd Ann Bossingham. We also thought it would be good to offer our Children's resources again a year on.
