AMP's Disingenous Holocaust Apology

On July 29, Canary Mission called out American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) for yet another outrageous piece of anti-Semitic misinformation.

AMP, who are also behind notoriously anti-Semitic campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), had appropriated Holocaust imagery for their ironically-named "Set the Record Straight" educational video series. See our tweet and video exposing them here

After Canary Mission exposed their shocking exploitation of Jewish suffering, AMP released an apology:

Their apology rings hollow for many reasons.

  1. AMP has yet another video that uses the same Holocaust image
  2. They unashamedly employ anti-Semites
  3. AMP's entire raison d’etre is the destruction of the Jewish State.

AMP didn't bother to delete a second video with the same appropriated Holocaust imagery! The video is still live, as of Thursday, August 13, over two weeks since their “sincere apology.” Clearly they are only concerned about their image and not about genuinely removing anti-Semitic propaganda.

Where is AMP's apology for their second video using the same Holocaust image?

For years, AMP have filled their leadership with bigots and anti-Semites. Within the last year, AMP have promoted two vicious and unrepentant anti-Semites from local chapters to national positions.

Mohamad Habehh is now the National Development Coordinator and Neveen Ayesh is now the Government Relations Coordinator.

Neveen Ayesh
  •  “#crimesworthyoftherope being a Jew."

  • “Uff that just urked me. I should put a sign on that door that says if your yahoodi [Jewish] please kill yourself cause you aren't welcome anywhere."

  • “I hate Jews 😩😩😩😩 I hate Israelis 😩😩😩 just become extinct no one even likes you nawar [gypsies] 😩😩😩😩 #Animals."

  • “Once again I want to personally set Israel & all the Israelis in it on fire & watch them burn to ashes. Burn you bastards 🔥 #IHateYou 😒."

  • “I should join al-Qassam. Be the first female to join their group lololol #IdLoveToThough."

Mohamad Habehh
  • "would your mum be happy you dating a black girl" Nah fam she'd think I have aids after that.”

  • “Gay people need to stop coming near me.”

  • “There wouldn’t be a hamas if zionists stayed in their real homes in europe #AskHamas”

  • “If you work with the Jews, you deserve any punishment possible in this dunya [world].”

  • “‘How many jews can you fit in a VW Beetle? 54 2 in the front 2 in the back 50 in the ashtray’ DONE 😂😂😂😂😂"

  • “Hamas should make me their official PR dude.”

When called out for her anti-Semitism, Ayesh was unrepentant, claiming that somehow her hate-filled words were misunderstood. She tweeted, “No. I’m not sorry that they took it out of context and twisted it to make me look bad.”

Where is AMP's apology for their systemic hiring and promoting of bigots and anti-Semites?

AMP and its members are dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish state.

AMP founder Hatem Bazian famously tweeted in July 2017,  “Sorry American Jews, you don't have a birthright." and in April 2018, he tweeted,  “The 'Jewish nation' is the central myth of Zionism. It needs to be dismantled.”

Taher Herzallah, AMP’s Associate Director of Outreach & Grassroots Organizing declared [01:12:04] that Israel should not exist within any borders. He stated [01:12:46]: “...we cannot envisage a future, a beautiful bright future for the Palestinian people as long as Zionism exists... the only language that the State of Israel understands is that of resistance.”

When asked about Israel, Tarek Khalil, a board member from the AMP-Chicago chapter, stated, “Does that entity have the right to exist?...No.”

When Osama Abuirshaid, AMP’s Executive Director, spoke [00:00:09] at a MAS-ICNA convention he praised [00:23:33] “Palestinian youth" who “decided to take things into their own hands" who [00:24:53] “started the new intifada, defending al Aqsa."

Where is AMP's apology for their stated intent to destroy the Jewish Homeland?

For all these reasons, we find AMP's apology for exploiting victims of the Holocaust to be hollow and disingenuous.

Have you seen other examples of AMP appropriating Holocaust imagery? Let us know.
