May News

Are we really at the end of May? This year is flying by so quickly! We have had another wonderful month, full of hard work, fun and more stories of success!

We were so proud this month when our children received their entrance exam results for the TCI Middle School and BWIC.  As a result of their hard work and great results, all of our children were offered places and we were delighted that two of our students achieved first place in the BWIC Year 6 and Year 7 exams: congratulations to Jenna and Brooke!

At the end of April our Grade 2 and 4 children sat the National Literacy and Mathematics Assessments.  We have been assured that they will try their best to have these results to us before the end of the school year.  It was requested that we send teachers along to assist with the marking and Mrs Chung supported us in this.

We were so proud of the teams who represented our school in TCIFA's annual school tournament  against some (often much older and larger) tough competition. Congratulations to them all!

The outstanding work of our EYFS teachers was recognized by the Turks and Caicos Islands Department of Education in a visit earlier in the year.  As a result of this, this month we took part in a teacher exchange program, whereby our teachers hosted Early Years teachers from other schools, in order to share their excellent practice.

We ran an Open Day for our EYFS department at the end of the first week in May.  All children enjoyed an action packed morning and we signed up many new little children to join us in the new school year.

We have ended the month with a visit from an Educational Advisor from the UK, Diane Durrant.  She has been working with us over the course  year, to help us in achieving our goals of developing our school, in order that we can provide and achieve the very best for our children.

I hope that you enjoy reading about all of the other excitements that May has brought to the children, staff and families of the ISTCI: from field trips and visitors to classroom fun!
Thank you for your support, Mrs Hinks

Nursery School at International School
Expanding our School with a Nursery School!
We have more exciting developments coming in EYFS in terms of a new Nursery.  This will be a brand new, purpose built Nursery School for children from 1 - 2 years of age.  We are extremely excited to be able to serve the children and families of the TCI in this way.  We are taking enrollments now, so please be sure to share this news with anyone you know who has children of this age as spaces will be limited.  Please also come to the office for flyers.

Get ready for the Science Fair

In June we will be hosting the annual Science Fair where all the children from Grades 3-6 research, test and produce a poster detailing their research and their scientific findings.

In previous years these Science fair ideas have been nothing less than phenomenal and, this year, we expect no less. Science Fair explained.

Wonders of the World

Can you name all the Wonders of the World?

The explorers of Grade Four certainly can! Mrs. Saunders has ignited an interest in history and the beauty of the world by learning about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The lessons have been a buzz of activity through research and artistic creations and pizza.  Look what they did?
Mother's Day

Mother's Day Special

To a packed audience of slightly emotional mums holding cameras, our Preschool, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten children sang their hearts out and swayed to the music. Check out the gallery of the action packed songs and the beautiful morning tea.

Can you learn to be creative?

At our school we believe that fostering creativity in young children opens up possibilities and builds self-confidence. Creativity should be viewed as an attitude rather than an aptitude. Just look at our very creative Grade 1 class.

Cheshire Hall

Exploring Cheshire Hall Plantation

Upon the arrival of the Europeans, the diversification of ethnicities was set in motion. This led into a new era of structure which surrounded an economy driven by slaves working in the past industries of salt and cotton.

The children of Grade Five divulged vicariously into this moment in time as they toured the ruins of Cheshire Hall Plantation with much excitement and intrigue. It was a day of learning. What is the plantation like?
Pastor Bradle

TCI Author Visits ISTCI

Pastor Bradley Handfield is well known throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands. Our children were privileged to have him come to the school and share his latest venture. The students listened attentively to the author as he read with great passion his story. Have you read the book?
