April News

International School of the Turks and Caicos Islands
Welcome to the April edition of Branching Out! Despite having our Easter break, this newsletter is still full of many exciting events.

Before the break we had 2 wonderful Sporting Events: our annual Inter House Sports Day and the Preschool Sports Fest. Both were a huge fun and showcased the sporting talent present in our school community. Thank you to Mr. DeFraine and Ms. Vina for organizing these events.

We also ended last term with a fabulous ISTCI Food Festival. Chefs Nick and Paul Quinn came to judge the culinary delights.

On the first Saturday of the Easter break many members of our school were present at the community screening of Sharkwater. I was so proud to see Brooke Rivers and Tom Philips, winners of the poster competitions, go onto the stage and collect their prizes from Rob Stewart himself. CONGRATULATIONS to you both.
I am delighted to see flags fluttering on our flag poles again. Many thanks to Karen Downes and the PTA, for their support in this. We have a team of children who are in early each morning raising the new flag. We have approximately 40 flags in total and they will fly in rotation. Each nationality represented in our school community should be represented over a 2 week cycle.

Our new Spanish programme is up and running, which is terribly exciting; many thanks to Madame (or should I say Senora) for this!

I hope you enjoy reading about these events in this latest edition of Branching Out. Also keep an eye on our constantly updated School News.

Best Wishes, Katie Hinks

Busy Kindergarten

The BUSIEST Primary School in Provo!

The recent blogs from Kindy show the impressive level of teacher effort, academic attainment and of course fun being achieved weekly.  Looking back at April and March I have come to the conclusion that we have the busiest primary school in Provo!
Just look at what has been happening in Senior Kindergarten, the Metamorphosis in Junior Kindergarten and Preschool Sensory fun.  And don't forget the Moms 'n' Tots group.

More Modern Languages for our School

French and Spanish Classes
Spanish or French or both?  There have been some recent major changes at the International School to the language programme.  We recently canvassed our school community about the curriculum and asked which languages they prefer to be taught in our primary school? We asked you and the RESULTS are in!

Education Week TCI

Teamwork powers up Sports Day

Teachers, parents and children really worked together this year to produce a fun, competitive and memorable Sports Day at the National Track. We have some promising athletes and apparently very fast parents too! Photographers were there to catch the action.

The future looks bright for Sport!

The annual Sports Fest for the Foundation stage was full of fun, laughs and happy memories again. We are very spoilt here to be able to always hold the event outside in the Kindergarten playground in the wonderful sunshine of the Turks and Caicos! The colourfully decorated obstacle courses were enthusiastically tackled by the little competitors. Take me to the gallery!

Travel Guide to North and Middle Caicos

Have you been to the outer islands? Many of us have yet to explore and see all the beauty these islands have to offer. Our Grade 3 children experienced a special day to remember.
Learn more from the Grade 3 Travel Guide!

There was so much to do, from visiting North Caicos Primary School and meeting their Grade 3 class, to exploring Conch Bar Caves, learning about mini sail boat racing at Bambara Beach, to trying out traditional Middle Caicos straw weaving skill and then to finally taking in breathtaking views of the Mujin Harbour.

What is my child learning this term?

Continuing with our commitment to regularly update our school community we have composed a synopsis of the themes and topics from all the Grades from 1-6. This will help you guide your child through the term and look out for helpful resources for that extra boost!

Importance of Flag Etiquette!

Having over 113 children from approx. 21 different nations makes our school truly special. We have a team of children who are in early each morning raising the new flag.  We have approximately 40 flags in total and they will fly in rotation.  Each nationality represented in our school community should be represented over a 2 week cycle. Who are the flag masters?   Read more.

Food Festival

ISTCI Food Festival!

The aromas from the kitchen were just too good to ignore so we had quite a crowd of parents at this year's food festival. The festival featured many proud children, conch specialities, a celebrity chef and trophies. We are still working on publishing their secret recipes! Who won the coveted Conch Trophy?
