End Of Year Wrap Up!

I am so proud to write the introduction to our final newsletter of the new school year.  I am proud of our outstanding school, our talented and dedicated staff and most of all, I am proud of our students; what a phenomenal group of young people they are!

This has been a truly amazing year, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.  It has been a year full of hard work and has been a massive learning experience for all of us, as we have reshaped and grown our school with drive and focus from all members of our school community.

Our goals for the year were centred around raising academic standards, developing structured and cohesive tracking and assessment systems, improving our communication with our parents and becoming more involved in our community here in the TCI.

As one of the members of the TCI government department of education said to me at the Science Fair; “The International School are cleaning up this year.  You are establishing yourself as a force to be reckoned with and keeping everyone else on their toes!" I couldn’t have been more proud!

We held a wonderful Graduation Ceremony this week to celebrate the Graduation of our SK class and Grade 6 class, the year as a whole and also to bid a fond farewell to some of our friends. I congratulate all our leavers on their successes with us and thank them for making our lives the richer for their presence here.

Thank you for all you have done to make our year so fulfilling and memorable. This is our school and as a team we have such a great deal to be proud of!

Academic Awards

We have been celebrating excellence throughout the year, both within our school and all over the country! Whether it be excellence in the sporting arena, in science, the arts, creative writing, external entrance examinations, the talent of our children and the dedication of their teachers mean that we have had a great deal to celebrate this year.

The new standardized tests we have introduced at the end of this year have allowed us to examine our children's achievement against their peers worldwide. When we look at the standardized score we are able to see how a child';s performance rates compared to other children their age and therefore we are able to pick out excellence across the school.

We are introducing this year, two trophies - Excellence in Mathematics and Excellence in English which will be awarded each year to the children who are achieving at the very highest level for their age. When we look at standardized scores, we are expecting the majority of children to have scores which fall between 90-110.  This is regardless of whether they are 4 or 14.

So, this year, the trophy for Excellence in Mathematics went to Kurt Rivers who achieved a hugely impressive score of 136. For Excellence in English, we had joint winners from two different classes. The children who are achieving the the absolute highest level for their age, with scores of a staggering 141 are, Danielle Burgess and Donnie Gardiner.

Time to say Goodbye....

Staff Leavers

Unfortunately we have had to say Goodbye to two members of our staff at the end of this academic year. Mr. Defraine has only been with us for a year but he has made a great impact in that time.  He leaves us to pursue a full time position with a water sports company. While I am delighted for him, as this is his big passion, I am sorry for us. Thank you for all you have done for us Mr D!

It is with great sadness that we also had to bid farewell to Mrs. Danics. She has been with the school for 10 years and has enriched the lives of so many students during her time with us whether as classroom teacher, special educational needs coordinator or many of the other extra roles she has taken on.  She has a special brand of enthusiasm which she injects into all she does, most recently in sharing her passion for the TCI with our children. We wish you and your family the very best of luck in your life in Canada and we will look forwards to your visits.

In Grateful Recognition:

Four members of staff were recognized at the end of the year for longstanding and dedicated service: 10 years:  Ms. Barbara Marshall, Ms. Judith Modest, Mrs. Irene Danics and 15 years: Mme. Josiane Rateau. Thanks
