Syrian/Türkiye effort |
Our hearts and prayers pour out to Turkey and Syria as they face the calamities of the devastating earthquake which has to date killed more than 45,000 people.
Our school community currently have students from both countries and we recognise the impact this situation has on their wellbeing. |
 |
A HUGE THANK YOU to the community, coming together to make a large collection for Türkiye with the guidance and help of Eren, 24’ (from Turkey/Germany) and amazing donation of blankets that Angela sourced. Thanks to the students who assisted collecting boxes and winter clothing, sorting, packing, sealing!
We were able to get the many filled boxes delivered, with Eren liaising with the Turkish deputy-consul-general and the load was taken by Turkish airlines.
The College-wide is currently running a fundraising campaign through the Amity Foundation for both Türkiye and Syria over the next few weeks and we would love your support, where every dollar you donate will be doubled by another donor up to HK$50 000!!
Special mention to students Eren & Hanan for their ongoing support, teacher Hayley for her support and our Chairman Anthony Tong for his guidance and expertise in humanitarian relief.

Peace COP Day |
 |
The College celebrated COP Day with the theme of the day “Peace Begins with Us”, the same as on UWC Day. Our Keynote speaker for this day was Jason Yip former humanitarian aid worker for International Committee of the Red Cross, conflict resolution and, latterly, social policy.
Thanks to the Peace Initiatives Committee who worked hard to prepare a variety of workshops that engaged students with this aspect of the UWC Mission, and all students and staff who participated on this day to make it a success.

LPCUWC students selected for The Earth Prize 2023 Scholar |
Well done to a team of our students who were shortlisted from over 1000 schools across 116 countries, for The Earth Prize 2023 Scholar prize! The Earth Prize is a global $200,000 environmental sustainability reward for the teams whose projects have the most potential to address environmental issues.
Congratulations to Stephanie Kwok (leader), Nina Crofton, Emma Leschly, Mary Lemza, and Pedro Lemos for making the selection with their project focused on online Carbon Audit tool to help schools determine their starting point and areas of improvement.
“We hope to make school Carbon Audits accessible for students and teachers worldwide to learn, raise awareness, and join hands for a carbon-neutral, more sustainable future.” - Team |
 |
Though they are not among the Top 10 Finalists, the students remain positive to continue with their project.
“Regardless, as part of the sustainability committee, we look for different ways to accomplish the carbon audit to kickstart our community project. We will further develop our ideas in collaboration with stakeholders and reach out to other schools as our project develops. We are delighted and proud to be selected as one of the 37 fresh ideas of this year. We still do not believe that our team's idea was chosen from over 1000 schools across 116 countries and territories worldwide. It is amazing!”
About the Earth Prize:
The Earth Foundation was founded in 2020 in Geneva, Switzerland, to inspire, educate, mentor, and empower students, schools, researchers, and young entrepreneurs with innovative ideas to tackle environmental challenges. |

Students chair Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony 2023 |
 |
On 17 January several students attended The UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony 2023 which took place at the Asia Society Hong Kong. Two of our students, Bruce So and Yucheng Jin, were invited to chair the event alongside Mr Ronny Chan - joined by guest speaker Pinchas Gutter, a Holocaust Survivor.
What a wonderful opportunity, a great experience and an important learning platform full of reflections, as our students continue to learn how they can play a role and contribute to a peaceful future to help prevent past atrocities in the future.
Many thanks to Hayley for organising for students to participate in this event organised by the Hong Kong Holocaust and Tolerance Centre (HKHTC). |

Intercultural Exchange with local school students |
As face-to-face interactions become the norm once again, our youth outreach initiatives are connecting the College community with students of all ages. In mid-January our Youth Plus Mission (YPM) group welcomed to campus 30-odd students and teachers from Kei Oi Primary School. It was an opportunity for YPM students to introduce LPC and UWC to a younger audience, all while providing opportunities for these children to develop their language capacity and broaden their horizons. |
 |
This interaction builds on the substantial efforts of the Giving Back UWC Group, formed by UWC alumni based in Hong Kong to offer support to school communities and families in need during the pandemic.
Special thanks to the following alumni volunteers for their time, patience and guidance offered to our staff and students towards this undertaking, Judy Lai ‘94, Rachel Fong ‘03, Amy Yung ‘03, Geoffrey Cheng ‘07 and Grace Huang ‘09.

Visiting Alumnus |
 |
The College welcomed Dr Tim Forman (LPCUWC 95), to share his perspective on sustainability and resilience in design, buildings and cities. This sharing was an incredible platform for our students to learn ways that they can help address global challenges that arise from unsustainable living.
Sustainability remains a core value of our mission as we continue to inspire, both the young and old to live sustainably – and in this case, the responsibility to ensure compatibility of our habitat, technology and the nature around.
Dr. Tim, Together with Li Po Chun alum Alex Bent, recently founded Undivided Ventures, which invests in start-up companies addressing global challenges through technology for buildings and cities. |
