Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridges

Bridges for pedestrians and cyclists are bridges for everyone. They can be used for walking, biking, even skiing. Some encourage you to sit and enjoy the moment, the view from the bridge or of the bridge itself. That may be the reason why they engender some of the most unusual and daring bridge designs of recent years. The Structurae database includes nearly 1,300 examples of all shapes and sizes from around the world.

Footbridge 2017 Conference in Berlin 6-8 September 2017
The 6th International Footbridge Conference will be held in Berlin from Septbember 6th through 8th at the Technical University of Berlin. It will follow in the footsteps of earlier conferences in that the theme of structural dynamics – Dynamics and Innovation – which triggered the first conference in Paris, will be kept on the agenda. What is new to this conference is that there are two themes which we have identified as stimulating and important not only to the footbridge community, but also to designers working in many other fields of construction: Cultivate Debate and Footbridges for Berlin.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts for the themes of "Dynamics and Innovation", as well as "Cultivate Debate" must be received before January 1st, 2017, for review.

Templates are available on the conference website.

Call for Designs

To present a entirely new footbridge design for one of six locations within the city of Berlin please register also before January 1st, 2017

Templates are available on the conference website.

Image Galleries for Structure Types

More than 222,000 images are available on Structurae. Usually, they are linked to structures, people or reports. Now, structure types also have image galleries showing the best photographs depicting the type in question. Check out galleries for footbridgescycle and pedestrian bridgesskyways or even bridges made specifically for skiing across them.

Video Pages for Structures and Persons

For an increasing number of structure entries as well as those for individual persons, Structurae has been making playlists on YouTube or Vimeo for inclusion in these pages. For example there are several videos of the Consol Energy Wing Tip Bridge.
Another example: this video by schlaich bergermann partner of the folding bridge in Kiel, Germany, in action is also available on Structurae where you will find additional videos of it.
Here are some additional footbridges with videos available on Structurae:

Proceedings for the Footbridge 2014 Conference

The Footbridge 2014 conference in London featured 175 presentations and papers on footbridges: reports on specific bridges, research on the complexities of dynamic analysis, and much more. Structurae has catalogued all the papers and will do so for the Berlin conference as well. Currently the database holds more than 64,000 publications in total.
