Keith’s Korner…

This last June I indicated my desire to spend a few minutes visiting with and getting to know all those here at Boiling Springs Baptist.  It is still my ambitious goal to do this during my first year as Pastor.  I am finding these times of conversation to be enjoyable and they help me in putting together the pieces of family and personal connections in the church and community.  If you are available some during the day please let me know and we can hopefully get together soon.  If you are not available during the day let’s talk about an evening or a possible time over the weekend where we can get together for a short visit.  Thanks for your patience in this and I look forward to our time together.

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at the topic of service both through our music and sermons on Sunday morning.  Our Sunday evening times of “Discovering our Spiritual Gifts” have also gone along great with this emphasis on service.  Peter reminds us in I Peter 4:10 (NIV), “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s Grace in its various forms.”  As we begin to think about our own giftedness and our future ministry as a church, it is my desire to have a greater number of people serving next year than we do this year.

On Sunday evening October 18, at 6:30PM in the LEC (Gym) we will have a Ministry Fair.  This will be an opportunity for the church family and any regular guests to explore, learn and have conversations with leaders regarding specific areas of ministry.  We will have some finger foods and desserts on this night!  Please see the enclosed insert in this Encounter to get a better idea of some possible ministry/service options for 2016.  This evening is sponsored by the Nominating Committee and Church Staff.
If you have been visiting Boiling Springs Baptist, or know of someone who would like to learn more about our church, please be mindful of the upcoming Starting Point breakfast coming up this Sunday, October 11, at 9:45AM in the fellowship hall.  This will be a great time to meet the staff and learn more about Boiling Springs Baptist Church.  If you are new to Boiling Springs and would like to attend this breakfast please let us know by calling the church office (434-6244) or by passing along an email to keith@boilingspringsbaptist.org.

Blessings,
Pastor Keith

Thank you very much for all the acts of love and kindness you showed Allen while he was at Cleveland Pines and Peak Resources.
The many calls, cards, visits and snacks you sent were greatly appreciated.  The members of the visitation committee, as well as other people, were faithful to visit him weekly.
God’s love was and is real to Allen, Elizabeth, Lyman Allen and me.  I know you will continue to pray for us.
 In God’s Love, Sonja

Music Notes from Roger Lowe:

Recently, Pastor Keith talked about not falling into the same old routines, and that if we are seeking God, He will use us in ways we never could imagine. One of the things that stands out to me about taking on the role of Interim Minister of Music is how God often calls us to the uncomfortable, the new, to areas of service that we haven’t done before. When that happens and we respond to that call, we get to see God at work in our lives in ways that we would miss if we relied solely on our own logic and natural abilities. Several years ago, I took Dr. Etter’s conducting class. He asked us on the first day who planned to be a conductor or choir director and who thought they would never direct anything. I raised my hand with the latter group. Up to that point, I had never been comfortable being in charge and felt more at home behind a keyboard. Not two months after the class ended, I was directing the choir at First UMC Rutherfordton as interim for several months with Linda as worship leader. Saying “yes” to that opportunity for service prepared us to be able to serve here and the thing I thought I would never do has become the area of service to which God has called me—at least for the time being.

God has plans to use each of us for His glory. Those plans fit who we are. He knows what we can do, what gifts and talents He’s given us, and what would be fulfilling for us as well as a help and ministry to others. As the church year continues into the fall, ask God what He has in store for you. Where and how can you serve in one of the ministries of the church? You might be surprised at what happens when you say “yes” to the uncomfortable!

1st Corinthians 12:12-14

12Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized byone Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
