Top 5 Summer Questions Asked by Residents

Our customer service staff fielded close to 100,000 calls from residents last year! We've compiled a list of the top five summer-related questions asked with topics ranging from building a deck to splash pads to yard waste and more.

Easy Ways to Save Water (and Money) this Summer

When the summer days heat up, outdoor water usage also tends to rise. We've got tips to help you conserve water and save money on your water bill. Did you know that your lawn only needs watering when there is less than 1 inch of rain per week? Or that you can install a rain barrel to collect roof runoff and use the water on your garden? Every drop counts!

Outdoor Fire Safety

Over the past few months, our Fire and Emergency Services team responded to an increase in calls about outside burning. Please keep safety top of mind if you're planning to have a fire in your backyard. Remember camp fires, wood burning fire pits, fire bowls and chimneas are not allowed under the City's by-law. Natural gas or propane fire pits are okay when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Wildlife at the Library

Join us this month as we learn about wildlife. Bring the whole family along to StoryWalk your way through the tale of Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox by Danielle Daniel at Mill Pond Park (Aug 14). Our Earth Rangers Club shows kids how to protect animals and their habitats (Aug 14). Adults can get to know how they can Support Local Wildlife and at risk species during our program with Ontario Streams (Aug 31).
