Protect Your Trees from Spongy Moth

Take action to protect your trees from spongy/LDD moth. Until early May, make sure to remove egg masses. From early May through mid-July, install burlap traps and remove caterpillars by hand daily. Free burlap is available at the City's Operations Centre during regular business hours.

You're Invited to a Virtual Open House!

Join us at a virtual open house on Tuesday, April 26 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. to learn about proposed updates to the City’s Official Plan. Ask questions, provide comments and learn more about what the amendments mean for the future of Richmond Hill.

It's Spring Cleaning Time!

Did you know that in Canada it's estimated that the average person throws away 81 pounds of clothing and other textiles each year? The best way to limit the environmental impacts of clothing and other textiles is to make sustainable choices. As you're cleaning out your closet this spring, don't forget you can donate unwanted clothing and fabric items through the textile recycling bins located at Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre (1124 Elgin Mills Road East).

2021 Green Achievements:
More Trees, Less Emissions

Richmond Hill continued to make positive strides in protecting our local environment in 2021 with energy efficiency upgrades, 17,000 more trees, reduced blue box contamination and more! We’re also updating our Environment Strategy with help from the community. The draft Strategy update is available for public comment until May 4.

Spring Greening Speaker Series

In the spirit of Earth Day, we’re hosting a weekly virtual environmental speaker series starting April 27 through the month of May. From native plants to active transportation, you’ll learn what we’re doing locally and what you can do at home to help "Green the Hill"!

Bi-Weekly Yard Waste Collection Underway

Starting the week of April 12 in the Yellow Zones and April 19 in the Blue Zones, yard waste will be collected every other week on your regular garbage collection day. Yard waste includes leaves, pine cones, fallen fruit, trees, shrub trimmings and clean straw.
