World TB Day: Europe Cannot Afford Inaction on Tuberculosis
  • Alarming new data: 75 million people could lose their lives and the global economy could lose €15,6 trillion by 2050 if the rise of MDR-TB is left unchecked.
  • Launch of new report: Key international donors are withdrawing support to TB programmes in the region to refocus aid on lower-income countries.

TBEC Joins Civil Society Organisations to Improve Global TB Discourse Language
10 March 2015 –
The Community Research Advisors Group (CRAG) and other civil society organizations (including TBEC) sent an open letter to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (the Union) calling for the retirement of stigmatizing and criminalizing language from the global TB discourse.

Romanian Government Approves National TB Control Strategy Through 2020

The Romanian government approved the National Strategy for TB Control for the period 2015-2020. The Strategy aims to reduce TB incidence and mortality by providing prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and an increased adherence to treatment as recommended by WHO.

Global Fund Shares E-learning Opportunities to Improve Access to the Funding Process

The Global Fund has now completed its e-learning library related to the access to funding process.  Courses are available in English, French, Spanish and Russian.

Over 45 Civil Society Organizations Urge the Commissioner for Health to Plan Coordinated Response to Tackle Tubersulosis in Europe

More than 45 civil society organisations co-submitted a letter to the new Commissioner for Health and Food Safety to use his role to champion the need for an improved response to the multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) epidemic in the Europe region.

 Make a Difference Today-Help to Fight TB!
  • Only one in three MDR-TB patients successfully complete their treatment in the EU. This rate is among the lowest in the world
  • 37,000 deaths every year in Eastern Europe from #TB
  • It is estimated that the direct and indirect cost of TB in the EU adds up to about €5.9 billion per year
