Giving MDR-TB Patients a New Lease on Life
Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) can be successfully treated today; however, the treatment course can take as long as two years and side effects can be severe if not appropriately addressed. The rate of MDR-TB treatment success is largely dependent on a patient’s socioeconomic circumstances as patients from marginalized groups are particularly vulnerable to dropping out of treatment. That is why ensuring patients’ adherence to TB treatment through a patient-centered approach that engages communities and civil society organizations, is critical to the success of MDR-TB treatment outcomes.

Как изменилась судьба одного больного
Туберкулёз с множественной лекарственной устойчивостью к противотуберкулёзным препаратам (МЛУ-ТБ) лечится в течение двух лет и может иметь низкую эффективность, если социальное положение больного ниже среднего и приходится думать не о лечении, а том, как выжить; тяжёлые побочные эффекты противотуберкулёзных препаратов не диагностированы и, соответственно, не купированы. Эти факторы затрудняют приверженность пациентов к лечению, а иногда даже становятся причиной перерывов в лечении или отказа от лечения. Поддержка приверженности к лечению больного остаётся одной из важнейших составляющих успешного излечения, которое всецело возлагается на представителей сообществ и окружающей больного общественности.

HIV/TB Patients in Eastern Europe at higher risk of death than in Western Europe
The Lancet HIV Journal published a recent research study conducted by Daria Podlekareva and her colleagues that shows an alarming situation for people living with HIV and diagnosed with tuberculosis in Eastern Europe. They have a risk of death nearly four-times higher than patients from Western Europe and Latin America.

Больные ВИЧ/ТБ в Восточной Европе подвергаются риску смерти в более высокой степени, чем в Западной Европе
Журнал «Ланцет: ВИЧ» опубликовал недавнее научное исследование, проведённое Дарьей Подлекаревой и её коллегами, указывающее на тревожную ситуацию для людей, живущих с ВИЧ и диагнозом туберкулёза в Восточной Европе. У них риск смерти почти в четыре раза выше, чем у пациентов из Западной Европы и Латинской Америки.
