Dear  Friend,
There is rarely a better place to find yourself immersed than in the garden around early summertime.
Early June in the Water Garden.
Persicaria bistorta 'Superba'
Best in a moist soil. Massed stems carry thick cyclamen-pink pokers, handsome dock-like foliage. Early summer. 75 cm.

Iris pallida susp. pallida

Worth growing for its beautiful foliage alone. Fans of broad-bladed grey leaves make a good accent all summer and well into autumn. Scented flowers with silk-textured crinkly petals in pale lavender-blue are a bonus in early summer. 60-90 cm.
The Agaves being planted out for the summer. You can see them in our gravel garden.

Aster name changes

There have been a number of name changes within the Aster genus so they may no longer be where you would expect to find them. An article published in the June 2014 issue of the RHS magazine The Plantsman talks in detail about the name changes and you can read that by clicking here.

Alternatively, to see how this has affected the Asters available on our nursery click here.
We have just released our 2016 calendar with a beautiful photo for each month of the year, taken by one of our staff here at The Beth Chatto Gardens. It is available in the shop and on our website.
We love hearing from you about our gardens, tearoom, our newsletters and the overall service and experience you have with us. We would welcome any feedback you might have. You can get in touch by email, Facebook, phone or visit our website.
