Help Houston -- The Jewish community of Houston needs our help to recover from severe floods that began on the 2nd day of Shavuos and caused devastating damage. The homes of many of the 40,000 Jews who call Houston home are presently unlivable; several shuls and other communal facilities will also require extensive repair. Some elderly members of the community had to be rescued by boats and kayaks when torrential rains inundated the canals that criss-cross the city, causing them to overflow. Rabbi Barry Gelman of United Orthodox Synagogues described the damage in an article available here. The Orthodox Union is coordinating the distribution of financial aid to the Houston community through its disaster relief fund. Please help by clicking here.
Best wishes for a wonderful (erev) Shabbos,
Rabbi Michael Bleicher
