Current Updates

Hiring

We begin our interviews next week for the five positions we have posted and are currently hosting any interested candidates on a school tour to help them to understand the nature of our school.  Students have met several candidates and I have gotten positive reports from the students that they are pleased with the options so far. I am excited that we will have the chance to interview and find great teachers for next year.   We will close our posting on April 26th but if you know anyone who would be a good fit for us, please feel free to share our listings here.

In addition to my presence as the principal, the interview committee will be comprised of district staff (Ms. Whiddon, Ms. Cummins, and Dr. Cunningham) and various members of the BHS teaching staff.  Ms. Pecore, the fabulous music teacher at Sullivan Middle School has graciously agreed to help on the interview panel for our new music position.

PARENT HELP WITH INTERVIEWS

We are also requesting TWO parents to join us for the interviews.  We would like one parent to join us all day April 30th, and another parent for all day May 4th.  If you are interested in serving on our interview panel, please submit your name here and Ping leadership will work with BHS staff to select representative parents.

Master Schedule

We are excited that our new website describes the changes we have made to the master schedule for next year.  Big thanks to Mr. Costa for his countless hours making the website happen!  Here is a description of our newly resequenced science offering if you have any questions about our recent changes.  For a list of the full elective options, please see our application page here.  You must select the "Select Your Classes" button to see what options students may select for next year.  BHS teachers have worked with their students in their advisory to help them make an informed choice and I have personally met with nearly all of the incoming 8th graders to discuss with them the courses they plan to take next year.  Please note that you do NOT need to fill out the form if your student is already registered.

Field Trip May 7th

We have received a special invitation from the Crimson Center for Speech and Language Pathology to have our students participate in the I Can Bike program on Thursday, May 7th.  This is a wonderful program in which our students will help students with disabilities learn how to ride a bike.  We had a guest share with BHS students the vision for this program and our students are very excited to participate!  The program takes place down in San Diego so we will need some parent drivers to help.  We would like to offer this to as many students as possible but know that this would depend on sufficient transportation so please let me know right away if you are available to help drive on that day so we can make sure all our drivers are cleared through the district!! We will leave school at 9 am and return by 3:30 pm and we are sending home permission slips today.  Please call Ms. Meza if you have any questions at (760) 631-5209 ext. 1300

Visiting Seniors from Los Angeles

We have arranged for a visit from the principal and 5 high school seniors from a New Tech High School called the Los Angeles School of Global Studies.  The students will be leading sessions with our 9th graders to discuss managing social conflicts with their peers as they start to think about becoming 10th graders and leaders of the school.  These are all excellent students with strong post-secondary plans and one of the students is the winner of the Gates Millenium Scholarship.  We are pleased to take the time to come help out our young high school students.  Please see Ms. Fleming if you have any questions.
