Gunnison TETWP in Vegas for PRCA Convention & National Finals Rodeo

What looks like fun (we aren't saying it wasn't, because if you know us, we are always having fun!) is actually a lot of behind the scenes work!

Gunnison TETWP Board member, Mike Dawson, Executive Director Heidi Sherratt, and Media Director Mackenzie Bode traveled to Las Vegas for the annual PRCA Convention, PRCA Awards Banquet and National Finals Rodeo.

Cattlemen's Days is proud to share that we were a top 5 Medium Size Rodeo of the year and for the 6th year in a row have been a top 5 finalist for the Massey Ferguson & Hesston Sowing Good Deeds Award.

Golden Circle of Champions

For the 3rd year in a row, Gunnison Cattlemen's Days has had the privilege to sponsor a kid from our community that has cancer or has had it in the past, to have the experience of a lifetime at the Golden Circle of Champions. This year, Cruise and his family joined Cattlemen's Days in Las Vegas for the fun filled day with PRCA cowboys at the NFR!

Does that name sound familiar? Cruise and his friends are also known for their lemonade stand at Alpenglow during the summer months in Crested Butte that benefits MANY non-profits in our valley.

The Golden Circle of Champions  was founded in 2016 with the support and partnership of the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo to raise awareness and provide funds to help local children battling pediatric cancer. Each year 25 children and their families are chosen to be part of the Champions at the Elks Rodeo. The children selected range in age from 3 months to 17 years old and have been diagnosed with a life-threatening cancer or associated illness.
During the opening night of the Elks Rodeo, our Champions and their families are honored. The children also attend a dinner at the rodeo where they meet many of the cowboys and cowgirls. They then watch the rodeo from a special reserved section located in the grandstands.

Cruise is 12 years old and was diagnosed with soft tissue and kidney cancer when he was only 2 years old. His favorite activities are skiing, lacrosse, basketball, cooking, and being outside with his family. In school his favorite subject is social studies, but he is best at Math! Over the summer he went to a lot of sports camps, young life camps, and kids' cancer camps. Cruise was given an 11% chance of survival and in his words, "totally crushed it!" He one day wants to find a cure for cancer so he can help other kids.
It was a magnificent event, that had emotions and excitement running through everyone's veins. We are so proud to know Cruise and his family. Special thanks to Cruise's cowboys: Team Roper, Rhen Richard, and Bareback Rider, Tanner Aus.

Country Kick Up Bode's 50th Birthday Donation

Dan and Kristi Bode celebrated their 50th Birthday with a barn party, invited all of their friends and family, and kicked up the dust with Country Kickup. Country Kickup is a non-profit teaching country swing & line dances for charitable causes. Happy Birthday Dan and Kristi and thank you for making your donation to Gunnison TETWP!
Recognition of the Month
Board Member Gloria Kern

Gloria is honored to be a member of the board and for the opportunity to help in bringing exceptional resources to the Gunnison Valley.

It’s her passion, not her resume that motivates her to serve as a board member.  Her past experiences include owning a business for ten plus years, west coast sales director for a national gourmet food company, development of Women’s Ministry in a local church, coach for a national Christian denomination, board member of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, current President of Center Stars, a philanthropic arm of the Segerstrom Center, and former board member of Center for the Arts in Crested Butte.

Her father suffered from one of the worst types of cancer and to watch that process was truly heartbreaking.  She lost him at the young age of 62 and since has advocated and contributed to many research projects, walk-a-thons, bike rides in his name, and support for many in similar situations.
