Off-line training on Preparedness and Response to the Health Emergency from novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2
The MediLabSecure public health working group, coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), has developed an off-line training on “Preparedness and Response to the Health Emergency from novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2" based on the on-line course developed for the Italian health personnel.
Aiming at strengthening the surveillance and protection capacities of health workers, the course has been adapted in English and French and is structured into three units:
features of SARS-CoV-2 emergency;
surveillance, identification and management of suspects and cases;
information for the health personnel on prevention, identification and control in clinical & community settings.
Join the 100 participants that have already registered.

COVID-19 'Actions Taken Review' Virtual Workshop: Protecting and empowering COVID-19 frontline health workers: how are we doing it?
The MediLabSecure and MediPIET projects jointly organized on September 23rd a virtual 'Actions Taken Review' workshop on the Protection and empowering of health workers to strengthen the preparedness and response of the networks' countries.
Welcoming Health representatives from Nigeria, Armenia, Senegal, Egypt and Mozambique and more than 80 participants, the workshop represented the opportunity to share experience and best practices on how to protect and efficiently train frontline health workers.
ECDC Rapid Risk Assessment: Detection of new SARS-CoV-2 variants related to mink
The paper reports the SARS-CoV-2 variants detected in minks during human-to-mink and mink-to-human transmission that occured in Denmark and the risk of these mink variants for human health
Wednesday December 16th , at 12 PM (CEST) in the framework of the 7th MediPIET module in CBRN - "Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats", the project will host the open live session "COVID-19: What Can Past Nuclear Accidents Teach Us?"
Friday 18th at 11(CEST). A virtual table on 'Multisectoral coordination before, during and after CBRN incidents: Perspectives from the different sectors for the COVID-19 Response' in the frame of the countries experiences on COVID-19 response is organized as part of the CBRN module.

OIE Regional meeting on Vector-Borne Diseases in North Africa
The OIE regional meeting on vector-borne diseases in North Africa was held online on December 3rd.
The event gathered more than 70 participants and aimed at sharing the latest epidemiological information about major vector-borne diseases occurring in North Africa (RVF, Bluetongue, West Nile...) as well as the activities and projects being conducted in the region.
The MediLabSecure participated in the meeting presenting past and future activities of interest for the region.
MediPIET online training course on Zoonotic and Vector Borne Diseases
Coordinators of the Medical Entomology and Animal virology working group gave lecture to the online training course on Zoonotic and vector borne disease organized by the MediPIET project.

External Quality Assessment exercises on RVF and WN
The two External Quality Assessment exercises on RVF & WN implemented during the first phase of the project by the Animal Virology working group in order to evaluate the diagnostic capacities of the MediLabSecure beneficiary Veterinary laboratories are described in two separate papers recently published
The role of birds of prey in West Nile virus epidemiology
The review describes the current biological, epidemiological and clinical knowledge on WNV infection in birds of prey and evaluate their role in the evolution of the epizootic that could provide with valuable information for wild bird surveillance program.
