on the Increase in 2019
Welcome to the August edition of CORESafety TV — the online video program from the National Mining Association.
This month, we’re talking about the rise of machinery-related fatalities in both surface and underground mining operations.
Powered haulage accidents that result in fatalities are often more prevalent, but now the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is showing a greater number of deaths caused by machinery so far this year.
As of the end of July, there had been 11 fatalities in 2019 reported by MSHA. Five of those were machinery-related and four were from powered haulage accidents.
By comparison, there were four machinery-related deaths caused by machinery during all of 2018.
