While 2020 will go down as one of the most challenging years that I can remember, it has also been the most inspiring. In the wake of unprecedented adversity and hardship, people around the world have turned towards innovation in order to solve critical problems and help one another.
This certainly holds true in the world of local government, where public servants of all stripes have been forced to navigate severe budget cuts and extraordinary obstacles to reaching residents – all while maintaining critical services. Amidst the chaos, local government leaders have shown an incredible propensity to innovate their way out of difficult situations in order to better serve their communities.
And I’m honored to say that our platform is helping government teams across the globe share this innovation with their peers like never before. Innovation projects are being added daily around COVID responses, including creative ways to digitize services, address budget constraints, support local businesses, and reach underserved communities. During these challenging times, local governments of all sizes are benefiting from free access to our growing innovation wiki. With 3,500 projects now searchable on Govlaunch, we are humbled to be a much needed resource for more local governments who have previously not had access to a wealth of information like this.
For us, 2020 was about expanding access to our platform for as many local governments as possible to help them respond to hurdles without reinventing the wheel. With that in mind, we opened up to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, and Ireland early in the year, added a new content format, the Govlaunch Podcast, to put a spotlight on governments and what they are doing around the globe, and worked tirelessly to make our site accessible by all.
We were also lucky to partner with Civstart, an amazing group of people supporting innovation in the govtech space. If you haven’t heard of them, I highly recommend you check out the companies they accelerate, their COVID Solution Kit, and their ongoing Inclusive Govtech research.
And while I am proud of everything we have accomplished this year, and how local governments have remained resilient and dedicated to their communities, I know there is so much more to do and that 2021 will continue to be a struggle for many communities and countries.
We are grateful to those of you who have helped contribute to this resource and look forward to continuing to serve the wider global community of local governments looking to innovate. We truly believe that together, with Govlaunch’s robust and inclusive resource, we can create a better future for all of us.
Happy New Year from us at Govlaunch!
