Dear Coordinators and Information Managers,

The Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) season is approaching and with that, it’s time to start preparing data sources for the PIN and Severity analysis. As you know, the Global WASH Cluster Field Support Team, through remote support as well as through its helpdesk, is fully available to answer your questions, help you in designing your indicators, review your severity scale, and more for your upcoming HNO/HRP-related activities.

This year, we have put together a short overview of what is available in this summary, including a new Assessment Strategy guidance for 2022 and People in Need section. We also have a dedicated HNO helpdesk that you can reach here at gwchelp@unicef.org or directly get in contact with Rebecka Rydberg, FST Assessment Specialist (rrydberg@unicef.org).

Other Resources

The GWC helpdesk skype group can also be useful as a peer-to-peer discussion forum, to ask questions and freely discuss the HNO process amongst WASH humanitarian coordination platforms. Please write an email to globalwashcluster@gmail.com in order to join the skype group.

The coordination toolkit (CTK) includes a range of resources that cover the entire assessment cycle. In addition to that, many examples can help platforms to plan and go through the HNO process. We also welcome new documents and examples, please visit the google form here using your Gmail account to submit any.

Upcoming HNO Webinars ⬇️

Thursday 16th June 2022 - HNO 2023 WASH Sectoral Guidance
This webinar will cover the HNO process with a focus on sectoral analysis and PIN calculations and will provide both theoretical and practical information needed for country-level HNO focal points. The webinar is suitable for those new to the HNO process as well as for those who need a refresher. In addition to the webinar, there will be the opportunity to attend HNO/PIN clinics with the Assessment Specialist to resolve country-specific questions, issues on analysis, indicators and other aspects of HNO development.
