Objective: To inform humanitarian actors, of the emergency WASH situation, opportunities and challenges in the response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in NW Syria
Civilians in northwest Syria have undergone ten years of humanitarian crisis as a result of hostilities witnessing: multiple displacements, damage of basic services, and economic downturn. Recent displacements of 1.4M people in Idleb during December 2019 to March 2020, has further deteriorated the situation. The risk of spreading COVID-19, alongside prevailing water and vector borne diseases, has increased the vulnerability of the 4.27 million residents. In a recent WASH severity assessment, all the sub-districts within northwest Syria are classified as high-severity locations, with 3M people with acute humanitarian WASH needs.
